Never called it that. It’s crazy that teams like Aston Villa can finish 14th and sign starters from CL clubs like Marseille tho.
That is more due to the big continental clubs being in cr.powe post Covid financially. Villa can muscle AC Milan on transfers and even the Spanish giants can’t spend like they did

14th was a false position for them, they’ve always been a 6-8 club.

All the money is in England now, nobody in Europe can compete with our mid level clubs never mind to clubs.

There was a period from 2017-2019 where every club outside the top 6 broke their transfer record, this has been going on for a while.

They only got promoted back to the PL two years before

The game's played at twice the speed with quarter of the space than when Granpa Roy Bear used to play. Less time and space means mistakes happen more.

Football is boring today though. It was much more exciting in the 90s and early 00s when there was more space and time for ballers to ball.
It's certainly not played at twice the speed. There are more sprints than there used to be, but that comes at a cost. Research has shown that there are more rest periods during the game to compensate. That's why it's more boring today.

Money =/= quality, otherwise you could also say the Saudi Pro League has surpassed most of Europe already.

Mid table and bottom half clubs used to sign players from better placed European clubs 15-20 years ago too. Gap has gotten bigger financially but the standard is awful these days, not sure how it's possible but these PL clubs keep signing quality guys while serving utter dross.

That's happened for years though. Anelka at Bolton, Van Der Sar at Fulham, Boksic at Boro and many more.

Most of the time it was older players coming for one last pay day, they’re coming in or close to their primes now.

Hmm maybe but a lot of them played for years in England. You never seen it happening the opposite way about that I can really remember. Say a smaller Spanish club spending big on someone from a top English side.

Other than the Madrid or Barcelona types the PL has been where most players have wanted to come for 20 odd years, obviously a lot of that due to the money available.

Agreed most were past their prime such as Boskic, Ravanelli, Zola, Vialli, Lombardo, Prosinecki (still great players but at the end of their careers)

Only one I can think off the top of my head in their prime back then that signed for lower level PL club was Juninho.

Arsenal Quotes

The club changed so much, I changed with it and football has changed with us... But one thing never changes: the 90 minutes still belong to the player, 90 minutes during which he is king.
