Jakub Kiwior: Major Ki Alert

Yousif Arsenal

Was on Vinai's payroll; misses 4th place trophy 🏆
He's stepping up. I'm surprised, I have to admit. He's obviously still a downgrade from Gabriel, but who isn't?
The next few weeks could be career defining for him.
No matter what happens I think we can consider ourselves winners if he stays then that's great if he leave we'll get around 30M from him specially if he end season strong.

My feeling that he'll leave because he could be starter in top 4 club in Italy at least depends on the clubs that will approach him

Much better than Rob Holding, not quite as good as Gabi. He’s a decent CB and excellent back up. He’ll only get better with a run of games, although he’ll make some mistakes along the way.

Not sure if he’d be better next to Gabi or next to Saliba. Probably next to Saliba since he’s a bit aggressive.

He made one error early on, but so did Saka, and then played as well as in the Everton game. His heading may not be as good as Gabriel but his passing is better. Him and Saliba are very similar in that they are ultra cool and position themselves extremely well. The pair of them kept 3 world class strikers very quiet and even allowed Timber and MLS to cover the midfield and even romp forwards. Another excellent performance.

What do people actually expect from a back up CB anyway?

To not make errors every 2mins, which he’s done since he arrived here. Fair play to the lad though, was solid after a shaky start yesterday.

Hopefully that’ll give him some confidence, and he can maybe kick on from here.

He was never making errors every 2 minutes, people were just desperate to pile on any mistake he does.

When Saliba makes mistake it gets swept under the rug.

I can name 5 major errors off the top of my head, and the guy hardly ever plays. Looks shaky a lot of the time too. I’ve got no reason to pile on him for no reason.

I’ll always give him his dues if he plays well, and like I said before, hopefully he can kick on from here.

With Gabriel out for months we'll see how good Kiwior is playing in his natural position. I suspect he'll keep improving the more he plays, can't be easy only coming in on the rare occasion.

He already looks night and day to the Fulham game and that was only a couple of matches ago.

You keep him around imo. If he’s happy to be back up then I don’t think it’s worth selling him for peanuts.

I agree he is doing a good job so far.

The only positive of the Gabriel injury is if we do sell this cameo will hopefully mean we might get our money back we spent on him.

I thought he got toasted by Mbappe twice yesterday and was very fortunate that Mbappe was shooting straight at Raya rather than using any type of touch on his shots. Was that not against Kiwior? At least one of those were for sure. Other than that, he was solid. Plus the pressure of a massive match, all in all, he acquitted himself well.

Some of you won't like what I have to say, but he reminds me of a young Koscienly. Slim build, quick, decent pass over the top, can carry etc. If you cast your mind back to the early days of Laurent, you’d remember the number of costly mistakes he made, including a big one in the now defunct Carling Cup final. He developed well after that, and became one of the best PL defenders, despite my annoyance.

The first chance you're thinking of came down Saliba's side when Timber lost the ball and Kiwior had to cover across, no defender in the world is keeping up with Mbappe in a straight vs angled foot race, Bellingham's ball was also perfect - just have to say its excellent play from Madrid.

not sure which other chance you're talking about

They probably meant the offside one. Most fans hate him & constantly look for a reason to confirm that he's not good enough.

I can see the similarity in style and especially as both are Polish descent, but Koscielny is different level from day 1 for me. He got thrown into Anfield and looked like our best defender instantly.

Back to Kiwior, I think he has acquitted himself extremely well. His struggles are mostly due to us playing him out of position at LB previously. Whenever at CB given a run of games he is fine.

Every player makes errors, you’re just picking on him because he’s an easy target.

He’s much better than that guy, Koscielny was awful.

Arsenal Quotes

When I first came to Arsenal, I realised the back four were all university graduates in the art of defending. As for Tony Adams, I consider him to be a doctor of defence. He is simply outstanding.
