I'm not averse to this lad.

He's got that dribbling and dynamism that is sorely lacking in our attacking department at the moment.

Can take on his man, good technique, nice shot on him. Why not?

Doesn't really move the needle for me, tbh.

Maybe Arteta can get him to take the next step, but if not we're stuck with another overpaid project.

Don't mind this as long as we sign another winger as well. On his own it's not enough. Say Saka/Rodrygo/Nwaneri/Gittens and we look a lot better in theory.

@jones Forget the price and agent etc etc, how is he actually skill wise? Do you think he can raise our level, or do better than G. Nelli? Asking you cause I only know you who has Bundesliga knowledge.

How does he compare to Nico? I guess you could say he raises our floor
Think Nico has more to his game but while both would raise our floor on normal form I'm not sure they will in our destructive setup which always pits a winger against a massive block, both would get frustrated quickly here I reckon. If we persist with Arteta's current setup I think we will have to get someone like Rodrygo who's capable of something else to find a starting LW

Agree with this. In an ideal world someone like Rodrygo would be perfect off the left as we need someone effective enough to make something on his own (like Saka does).
That would create enough doubt in the opposition for them to have to consider both flanks rather than what we have now where they know if they stifle us off the right then we're quite ineffective.

He's a very good dribbler, decent pace and since the start of the season he's become a good finisher - all when he's in form. He's looked shocking, genuinely useless since the start of the year, two G/A since January. There's a reason the reported fee went from 100m+ to around 50m even if it's his agent pushing it.

Put it this way I wouldn't mind having him at the club, I definitely wouldn't want to spend the majority of our budget on him

Williams has scored in a euro final, getting man of the match. He’s a lot more established and seasoned than Gittens.

You aren't getting the finished product with either of them. They both have areas of their game they need to improve and there's no guarantee either of them will offer more than Martinelli in terms of numbers, but they'll both offer something different. I think it's a bit silly to say a window can go from satisfactory to disappointing depending on which one of those two joined.

Good job I didn’t say that then.

Yeah, don't think this guy is it.

Frankly, there aren't many great options available. Semenyo would probably make the most sense: pretty good output, PL proven, ambidextrous, not on crazy wages.

I started clapping myself... until I realised that I was Sunderland's manager.
