I find it deeply concerning that every time we have a whiff of interest in a player, it’s all over the news. This isn’t our style and it’s a terrible look for everyone involved.

But the opposite has been happening for a while?

We only get real news once a link is concrete, a guy like Ornstein or Mokbel reports on it and THEN the vultures appear.

No one knew about Vini, for instance. Bruno was also out of the blue, the press were all guessing we were in for Tonalli.

The whole reason this subforum is going crazy is precisely because we've got so few active transfer threads.

Yeah if you expect us to do a job with Mosquera and White not even taking into account how injury prone the current version of white is beyond naive.

Hmm Ornstein and Mokbel only ever used to report on links when they were at an advanced stage of negotiation. Now it’s as early as when we’re exploring a deal, like Vini. That bothers me because these are reporters with extremely well connected official sources.

People losing their minds because of a lack of serious transfer links is a whole other issue that has more to do their failure to grasp the what they’re experiencing.

There are so many accounts now posting opinions, tenuous links and analysis that everyone has information fatigue.

It can make it feel like nothing’s going on when it’s just your algorithm feeding you stuff that’s intentionally designed to drive your cortisol up.

This is a good point and overall I do personally like the physicality we have at fullback because all of them started as CBs (albeit Timber slots in so naturally as a defensive RB, I think of him as a RB).

There's a but though, and that is we are a bit obsessive about it. Why not also get one really good actual RB first (that can also cover CB).

It'd certainly work in Arteta's system because he uses fullbacks rotating forward to beat the opposition's marking.

Also variety can be a good thing, especially when you're trying to win the league again, and teams may expect you line up a certain way.

Edit: I actually made a mistake with Calafiori as he was a LB/LWB by trade, before transitioning to a CB under Motta at Bologna. But still, signing another traditional fullback first would work imo.

My mate who is a Liverpool season ticket holder says Quansah is a pretty good defender, he’s just slow. He ultimately said he rated him.

Not sure how accurate that assessment is but it’s the polar opposite to what I thought. Thought he was a big quick guy that couldn’t defend.

A calm cool and collected defender is what we need back there. We’ve got enough aggression back there in Gabriel, Mosquera and Hincapie.

He would come here, not play that much, in a few seasons he'd be worth half what we paid max. Most likely would just run down his contract like all our other fringe players
