First choice keepers go for that much - Trafford from Burnley who is highly rated young GK will cost about that.

It's about allocation of resources - why are we spending big on a back up keeper, we're *crying* for another forward where we're actually short in numbers according to Arteta.
17 million on a player that we are unlikely to use during the season whilst our depth in attack is non existent.

Wtf this dude cost so much for?
Is Mikel canalizing money to the motherland or what?

Liverpool paid 30m for a way more proven keeper.

I honestly think it's a separate argument.

If depends how you view it.

Say a GOOD keeper comes in on less wages for Aaron's fee we are in front. FACT

We all want an attacker but honestly I highly doubt spending £12m or £22m on a backup keeper makes a significant difference.
Plus if you buy a good and young goalkeept he can turn into your new nr. 1 or you could still sell him in the future for a similar fee.

Let's say we buy him for £20m and in two years you sell him for £15m you paid £2.5m for transfer fee per year.

Reading more about him and people who have watched him basically say he's the future Spanish number 1.

Come round to the idea tbh. Don't think Raya will be number 1 for very long if Garcia's that good.

You’re missing the point. The reason spending 30m on a backup keeper is insane is because he will never play and it will be impossible for us to retain his value, just like it was with Ramsdale who was prob worth closer to 45-50m before Raya came in and we’ve ended up selling him for half that just a year later.

For a club that appears to be all about “sound business” these days that is an incredibly dumb decision.

Never seen him play so dont know how good he is. Retaining his value wont be a problem like Ramsdale as he wont be on silly wages for a back up (read he was on £5k at current club vs Ramsdale who was on £100k) if he is decent, Matt turner was sold for profit. Also Sam Johnstone the CPFC back up went for £10m, if Raya gets injured who is going to be our GK?

Also could be club has a view of him being long term no.1 he is a Spanish u21 international & for all Raya's great intangibles and reflexes his shot stopping can still be improved & he wasnt faultless last year e.g. both games against sp*rs.

Tenas is the future me 1. The guy that played ahead of him in the Olympic team and same age

For real, what does Inaki have on Mikel?

Is Artera actually bald and Inaki has pics of that or something?

An important aspect of this is Arteta wanting constant improvements to the team. Small margins game.

Garcia is like 8 cm taller than Raya, so even if he ends up similar level to Raya otherwise, he will take Raya's place later on.

I like having a strong back up keeper so I'm not against this nove in principle. He looks a talented young keeper.

The optics of splashing out £20m or whatever on a reserve keeper when we're a bit short offensively doesn't look very good though.
The optics only look bad if you think signing a GK prevents us from signing an attacker, which I highly doubt to be true.

Whats this guy like with his feet? Seems to be their Inakis main criteria now.

Apart from liking paella.

I don't understand the logic behind this target.

First of all, if he's that talented, I don't understand why he would choose to join us at his age, only to be Raya's backup, who's only 28.
He needs to play every weekend in order to get experience, and improve.

And we saw it with Ramsdale, keeping a young solid keeper on the bench is a mistake, the player only loses value, and rythm and focus.

Isn’t the point that we need serious competition - Mikel doesn’t want Raya too comfortable and it got pretty easy for him with Ramsdale, who I think we all now accept (having first hated Raya) is a level below him and in any case, Raya works way better in our system.

If Garcia wants to come and seriously challenge - which appears to be the case, all good with me. It’s clearly not his retirement fund at 23.
