I don't understand the logic behind this target.

First of all, if he's that talented, I don't understand why he would choose to join us at his age, only to be Raya's backup, who's only 28.
He needs to play every weekend in order to get experience, and improve.

And we saw it with Ramsdale, keeping a young solid keeper on the bench is a mistake, the player only loses value, and rythm and focus.
I think you forgot Inaki Cana owns the club

? Why didn't we already have the deal negotiated? Why is it everything happens 1 at a time at Arsenal? Richard Garlick can't multi task? Bring back Vinai

I’m all in favour of this, the guy’s good enough for cup games so less chance of Raya getting injured, and if he does it’s not a calamity. It’s completely separate from signing or not signing a forward or winger.

I can only make sense of this if all of the following is true:

- club wants a highly capable backup keeper;
- they prefer Garcia to Ransdale for that role, perhaps his playing style is more similar to Raya and his coming in won’t disrupt team play;
- they knew Espanyol were unlikely to strike a deal and are fine paying the release clause (only reason to have kept it this late to discuss with club).

If all the above tracks, they they are roughly trading Ramsdale for Garcia for similar fees, Garcia is on lower wages and they can groom Garcia to take over in 3ish years.

Still, man. Club’s got balls with their player assessments.

Let’s leave the lack of forward signing to the side when evaluating this deal. These are parallel deals that don’t impact each other.

This deal is being pushed based on the words of 1 man

Even Karl Hein would have been decent enough as a backup man...
I would have thought so too. It was a bit of a head scratcher when he went out on loan knowing we were looking to sell Ramsdale.

I don't at all mind the stronger competition for Raya if that is what Arteta and the club want, but cost-wise, not at the expense of a winger/forward.

Hein was a ready made and cheap option as a back up who wouldn't likely be getting that many minutes this season as it is.

Hopefully we get the players we need by deadline, best to wait until then, I'm just not sure if we're actually interested in bolstering our front line.

He can't kick the ball to the standard we need.

Ngl i hope we don't have to pay the release.

However if this guy is gonna be good enough to displace Raya in the future you can see why we may?

Having an adequate no.2 should be a priority for big clubs so im not against this transfer at all. Ideally you want someone who is capable in the cups and who the players will trust with passing out from the back. You also want someone good enough to keep your no.1 sharp and consistent.

From the top of my head i can think of Pope, Alisson, Neuer and Courtois who have gotten serious injuries in recent years and the no.2 had to step in for majority of the season. If sth like this happens to Raya then we screwed if we arent prepared. Liverpool were lucky that Kelleher was decent when called upon last season, and have now signed a strong no.2.

Casillas had Lopez, Donnarumma had Navas, Neuer had Nubel, Dida had Abbiati, Toldo had Julio Cesar...I can keep going on but all the big sides need a good backup...I would say its even more important when your starting keeper is not at the level of Alisson or Ederson.

We are not stockpiling keepers like chelsea or even newcastle who have Pope, Vlachodimos, Ruddy, Dubravka and Gillespie and are now also after Trafford from Burnley. This won't effect our search for a quality forward in any case, considering the sales we made with a higher wage capacity available as well. As some others have already mentioned, it's the profile of the forward that matters more at this point.

Espanyol knows what we will pay the release clause anyway on the last day of the transfer market. We already allowed Ramsdale to leave and have no other option as Nr.2.

Edu getting schooled again.

Edu has no worries. They need to get a replacement though.

Last time Arsenal had Torreira for Atletico in the Partey release clause.

So it would be better for them to agree to it faster than last minute.

Funny. Happen to watch this player play in an earlier youth tournament this year on tv and said someone will sign this guy he is excellent. Now it us.

He was impressive in that match.

No shade here. Have you actually watched him play? A lot of opinions here seem to be getting formed without much research on the guy - namely the assumption that he’s a back up rather than a challenger for Raya.

He is very very good.
