Jorginho: Gorgeous Jorg

31 and 32 really isn’t that old for football, not sure what’s going on with Arsenal fans about these two but it’s like you want them to be worse than they are.

Kroos and Modric are still doing the business and they are both much older. Jorginho’s game was never about pace and running around he would look fantastic again with Rice beside him like he did last season

I thought Jorginho was really good yesterday. A little slow but tactically aware with good positioning. I'm delighted that our fourth choice central midfielder (or fifth choice, if Arteta rates Havertz above him at CM) is so competent. At this stage of his career he is likely to be happy to be a backup and cup game player - it would be hard to find a younger player with the same ability willing to play so infrequently. He'll be good for the rest of the season and possibly next season too.

People here are overly harsh. These were his first minutes this season so any player would lack a bit of sharpness.

Jorge's sheer presence is valuable. But he needs legs around him to be more effective. Partey is not rice, and Trossard is no Ødegaard when it comes to athleticism and closing down.

When I saw that three in the middle I thought we're toast, but all three are tactically astute and super intelligent and technical so we managed.

That performance made me really confident in our second string and Arteta for the remainder of the season. I hope Jorge will feature more with Rice. Think they can bring the best out of each other.

I think Jorginho is terribly underrated. Just look at his history and his pass completion percentage across a season. He's always in the high 80's or early 90's which is very very impressive. The guy doesn't lose the ball

Put a physically strong runner next to him and he's lethal with his passing range. He can just dictate play as a "controller". He can also unlock stubborn defenses with his passing range.

He's a player that others I bet love playing with, very good football IQ.

I bet he goes on to be a coach or manager.

Felt he lost so much of the ball when near/around the final third.

Didn't help that Partey just couldn't cover for him once he didn't get the pass we needed.

It's like you want it to be so serious.

It's really not that serious.

He's very very publicly retired and Modric is substitute now which is totally understandable given that he's almost 40.

Jorgi looked bad because he had to run a lot yesterday.
Kroos and Modric, they don't/didn't need to run much; but when they needed to, they did not look better than Jorgi.

Don't know that his legs are gone the way people are describing. He probably wouldn't survive an entire season of 90-minute games but he was putting in a shift, looking to play intelligently as is his M.O. He'll be fine to rely on for full games here and then, not worried at all. 32 is not that old, jokes aside.

Yeh wondering if it’s us being influenced by age when it comes to Partey and Jorginho.

Can argue Partey could have more left in him, just needs to find his groove. And with Jorginho, we haven’t even seen enough of him this season to know.

No doubt they can not play together if we’re serious about dominating football matches and duals but they probably still have enough juice between them for the rest of the season.

It is in today's game.

Kyle Walker just turned 34 and he's the oldest regular starter on a big 6 club.

Very few guys past age 31 or 32 are currently still able to perform as regular starters with big clubs, especially in the PL with the level of pace required relative to Italy or whatever.

(and I thought Jorginho did very well last weekend, for the record)

The game has shifted *a lot* younger over the past 10 or 20 years.
