Kai Havertz: Kais and Lows

You little goalpost shifter you

Nice try but always good for us is not the same as been a good signing, your point about Gyok/Eze isn’t relevant either. You know better
Yeah have to admit this one  saying "always" was probably not the best choice of words.

I mean the essence of your post I mostly agree with. If you remove that adaption period where he was played at LCM, he’s been mostly a valuable player for us.

Second half of the 1st season he was great.
I’d say last season he ok-good. Did miss a few chances in a couple of the cup games which ultimately were the deciding factors in being knocked out. But our attacking was poor in general last season.

If he can get back to the post Dubai form he’s gonna be ‘like a new signing’.

last season havertz made a lot sidepass & backpass when play false nine role and even he missed a lot big chance which make him even worse

he almost offer nothing last season, its look like he cannot handle pressure when he is the main man at upfront

but this season after comeback from long injured so far he looks more natural did not awkward & more dangerous in final third when play behind striker
I think he will be the one to step up.

He looked bereft of any kind of confidence by around late October of his first season with us, when he was the Xhaka replacement. By around November I was audibly groaning whenever I saw him starting games for us in the midfield. He just couldn't do anything right the more and more he played there, but once he moved into a false 9 role, his understanding with his teammates really developed, especially on the right hand side combining with Saka, Ødegaard, and White. Regardless, aside from anything relating to team balance and general chemistry development, he himself looks like a proper assured veteran. There's an aura emmiting from him currently. The game has slowed down for him, he looks like he has time in pockets of space, looks like he knows what he wants to do 3 steps before he has to do it, he has the confidence to execute difficult passes, his awareness is much higher, he's using his physicality to his advantage instead of it always looking like a bit of a weakness cause he looked just a bit too awkward and gangly to maneuvre tight spaces in the midfield a couple of seasons back. Proper grown man type stuff.
He looked lost as a left 8 but that's not unsurprising given he never played there and Merino who did play there - struggled as well. He looked at home as a false 9 and he ****ing cooked behind a striker/another false 9.

I think his best position is behind a striker as he can help in midfield but also double-up up front. He solves a lot of our attacking issues.

Want him playing up top. Would like to see a front 3 of Eze ‐ Havertz - Madueke with a midfield of Rice - Zubi - Ødegaard.

I do get what you’re saying tbf, the adaptation period shouldn’t count when we evaluate the signing overall.

Excluding that period we have a year of very good form then a few months where he tapered off. The time spent out injured counts against the signing overall but if he finishes this season strongly and it ends in trophies then I think you call the signing a success overall.

On a slight tangent I think he’d probably be fine playing left 8 now (not that it would ever happen with Rice making it his) I think his struggles there were more due to adaptation than the position itself.

Kai was rubbish at LCM, which wasn’t really his fault. We were asking a forward to almost play as a double pivot lmao.

As soon as he moved to CF the performances drastically improved.

I wonder if he is even better in this SS role as well. When we signed him it’s the position I woulda said is his best.

In a way, the support striker role is a mixture of CM and playing at CF. The 2 areas Arteta has deployed him.

At Chelsea I always had Havertz down as that kind of player who lost out from there no longer being 2 striker systems for that reason.

But regardless, he is a helpful element to our team whether he plays CF or SS.

As expected a setback after a long injury I guess. Just really unfortunate it’s for these games
