Kai Havertz: RNein

Reeling from Laca & Kos nightmares
He's already come good. Been off form lately, but we almost won the title last season with him being a massive contributor. "Poor player" - come off it.

He brings a lot to the table but has his weaknesses, we need someone who can score goals from the left wing position and a better alternative than Jesus backing him up.
He’s awful, almost winning doesn’t mean anything. We need to move on from Havertz as a striker.

I'd love to know if he was bought to be an 8 or a striker.

It's the former. Yes, his versatility was something we looked at, but comments from Arteta and the fact he was being played there for half a season until it became clear it wasn't working tells us as much.

Sadly, him and and Martinelli are not build up players and the more they get involved in it, the worse we end up looking.

Thats why he looks better at 9 and why Rice at left 8 has been killing that side of the pitch.

I'd kill for a game with Ethan right and Ode left right now. I know it's too soon for that, specially given Martins and Sakas connection, but having another ode (someone who can lead a press and also build play) opposite side would do wonders for us.

Just need to move on from him, period. I'd take him ad back up/plan but, again, I think he's too expensive for that.

I don't hate Kai as I did when we signed him, I just think what we're seeing is what we get and that's going to be that until he moves.

You know damn well Havertz doesn't only bring pressing to the table and you know damn well that not everyone in the league "does their defensive duties." You're going to tell me that Jesus or Nketiah presses and hounds opposing players like Havertz does?
Yes? If you don’t for Arsenal you don’t play.
That everyone acts as a target man and opens space for others with movement like he does?
brother this is not that difficult if you don’t have to pair it with top quality finishing, in fact any big body with PL technique could do that job, tbh even the big man @Macho could do an alright job.

They can't and they don't, because it takes a different kind of motor and spatial awareness.

It's clear you don't value off ball movement as highly as one should so you're never going to appreciate what Havertz or someone like him does.

Give me 20 goals a season and you can have the off the ball movement of Wenger’s statue for all I care.

Won't be there at the edge of the box to win them aerial duels of he does...

Jokes aside he does (sometimes) make runs down the middle or to the back post but the ball gets intercepted.

It’s why all actual strikers mix it up and make a dart to the near post sometimes - it’s a harder finish but you’re more likely to make contact.

When someone is lacking in so many areas, people tend to exaggerate other things to justify them. His movement and link up play are both nothing more than decent. Just that his finishing and shooting are poor so it makes decent look better

Overall Havertz is a decent PL striker. Nothing more nothing less

You're wrong, no?

Think he does his classic alibi moves just to be somewhere without actually expecting to score. You can tell when he actually gets the ball he is surprised by it and didn't even adjust his body to do anything with it

His deficiency was highlighted in the 60th minute when he swivelled in the box but pulled his shot wide. Contrast with Salah in a similar position v Newcastle and he has to hit the target. He's not and never will be enough despite working hard.
Just to update myself and anyone who cares to read this post, Harvey Barnes goal from inside the box was another good effort and goal. It's surprising after the goal Kai scored vs West Ham that he can't strike clean and hard at the least.

I’m gonna to sum up my thoughts on Kai as succinctly as I can. If you rate Kai and believe he’s a world-beater or believe he’s the worst player of all time, just wait your turn. At some point in the season, he will prove you right.

Now the question is someone like that worth the money we've invested in?

I can be more succinct than that tbh.

Question: Was Kai worth it?

Answer: No.

That sums it all up.

I still like this as the idea behind Havertz in midfield. Probably requires someone like Zubimendi behind who's bit of both Rice / Jorginho from what I've seen.

He has played the most minutes of any outfield player though, so perhaps there is an element of tiredness as suggested, I'd just like to see a little more conviction in his shots, even his goals look far from convincing.

A good footballer with some excellent traits who is no longer a midfielder after his bizarre late growth spurt, but sometimes thinks like a midfielder when played up top. Which is some situations is great, and in others is incredibly frustrating.

For our aspirational level, his ideal role is as a flexible rotation player, but it will probably take a £75-100m transfer to make that happen

Is this growth spurt thing actually a thing? Seen it mentioned quite a it over the last few years..

In my opinion, growing a few inches doesn’t hinder your technical ability.
