I'm not surprised Keegan has quit at all. Not because of the way he's been treated but because that is him all over, forever the martyr. If he had any sense he would have seen that Ashley and the board were using him from the moment they brought him back to the club. An easy way to placate the fans.

Keegan was never going to mastermind any revolution. He was there as a figurehead for the revolution Dennis Wise and the backroom staff were masterminding. Only problem is nobody told Keegan.

He quit because the club wouldn't let him manage the team and were buying players he didn't want. Well, we all know why that is. Because, just like the Newcastle fans, Keegan has delusions of grandeur and would've been after players the club could never attract. After a summer spent disappointed at how many of their transfer targets turned them down Keegan should've been happy that they'd managed to bring in any players at all. And it seems those behind the scenes know what they're doing given their two signings Coloccini and Gutierrez have been running things for Newcastle so far this season.

And it's completely unsurprising to me that they tried to offload Owen and Barton. One is an overpaid, injury-prone drain on the club's finances. The other is a convicted criminal whose every appearance in a Newcastle shirt brings the club into disrepute. In the long term the club are better off without both of them.

But, of course, the ignorant Toon faithful are bleating away again about how Ashley is ruining the club and how he should stand down for letting Keegan go etc. For once might they consider that someone at that club finally knows what they're doing and knows better than they do?

When Ashley turned up he wrote off hundreds of millions in debt that the previous owners and managers had wracked up. He brought in a very good manager (Allardyce) who could've built a successful team but he was hounded out by the Newcastle faithful for not winning enough games with the awful squad he had inherited. Keegan's record since he returned is barely better than Allardyce's, but he is a hero. How ridiculous.

People go on about how Newcastle fans are the best in the world but note how it's mostly Geordies who preach that nonsense. Newcastle fans are the worst in the world. They're EXTREMELY fickle, arrogant, vitriolic and their expectations are far too high. Within weeks of appointing whoever their new manager is they will all be on his back even if he's done better than Keegan, and will be calling for Shearer to be appointed even though he'd probably get them relegated.

Newcastle will never become a big club because the Newcastle fans won't allow it, they will scupper any chance of building a good team. But if Mike Ashley does somehow manage to stick it out and get them some success they'll hypocritically herald him as their new hero.

I'm not surprised Keegan quit, it was inevitable. And he's created another harrowing chapter in the life of the eternal drama queen. Maybe the Newcastle fans should stop harping on at the board and wonder why Keegan has deserted them again. If he loves the club so much why has he left them in the lurch again?!! Because he has a scapegoat this time, allowing him to walk away before he fails.

Keegan, Newcastle United FC and their fans are a running joke but things will never change because they all feed into each others ridiculousness, creating a vicious circle. The sooner they are relegated or go bankrupt, the sooner they will disappear from everbody's consciousness. And we, and football as a whole, will all be better off for it.

Oh my

Unless Keegan consistently pushed the board left and right, I don't see what's wrong with presenting a wish-list consisting of Henry, Ronaldinho and Lampard.

That's a sign of a very ambitious manager

I know it's the News of the World, and I know that the Newcastle board will probably have sent their PR team into overdrive but if even a single paragraph of this article is true it just shows how misguided Keegan was.

Not sure how much truth there is in this one though....

The Newcastle owners used Keegan good and proper to win the fans over, but there's no way in the f*cking universe that Keegan was ever going to achieve anywhere near what the Newcastle fans imagined of him.

Why don't all the Newcastle fans put their heads together, accumulating the power of one normal person's brain and do their best to see the wood for the trees?

Keegan can't save you, Shearer won't save you, don't b*tch about southerners having bought and ruined your club, don't moan about foreign managers/players not understanding the history of NUFC. Just get with the program, catch up with the real world and allow people with a knowledge of the world beyond the North-East of England to get your club back in the game.

The fact that Shearer has been touted AT ALL for the job just shows how f*cking stupid these fans can be. What the f*ck has changed in the last twelve months that would make a sane man want to take over command of a sinking ship?

I despair at having to read this nonsense in my newspapers every day. The world would be a better place without Newcastle United FC!

I especially like the caption underneath the picture of Jackie Milburn: "If corpse reanimation fails the fans want this photograph brought magically to life."

It's a no win situation with the Toon army. If Keegan had had the guts to stay on and get on with his job, which is actually less to do with making transfers and more to do with "managing" the team, they may have won against Hull this weekend. Why don't they go and protest outside his house and ask why he's left them in the lurch again?

But had they lost with Keegan still at the helm they would've still got on the board's back for not giving him enough money. You simply cannot win with them.

If I had the money I would buy out Mike Ashley and re-instate Keegan as manager. Then during the press conference announcing his homecoming, I'd drop the bombshell that I'd had Newcastle United plc liquidated, immediately send in the bulldozers to tear down St. James's Park and reveal that I'd only hired Keegan back as the site manager of the new landfill I was going to turn their stadium into. 50,000 fans would probably still turn up every Saturday to see Keegan take his tea break. :roll:

Sadly I don't have two pennies to rub together, so I'm just going to have to put up with the goings on at Newcastle cluttering up my sports pages every morning. :x

I mean he won 2 Balon Dor's after he left Liverpool after taking them to their first European Cup. England missed 74 and 78 WCs I think and 82 was his first, so in that part, but anyone in football knew how good he was.

I just remember the Newcastle title races when we were lagging and being gutted that POS SAF **** beat him to 2 titles. When we weren't at the races I had them as my horse. Also like Wenger a huge proponent of entertaining the fans almost being more important than the result
