League is very weak
Seem to agree with you mate. Our main blunders have been the playing staff since he's departed, not to say Xhaka and Mustafi were any much better, but was that Wenger or was that Ivan/StatDNA?
Whatever it was, Wenger takes responsibility anyway as it was on his watch.

The money we’ve spent in the last two years though, Wenger would’ve found a star or two atleast.

We spent 300M last 3 season i keep repeating myself that so Kroenke don't mind spending money the problem is we been spending it badly that why we gone behind.

we done much better when we spend total 30M in transfers when we were in debt early emirates era than spending 100M every summer have to start being smart.
Exactly, the Kroenke's will pay up when they need to but we need to first address the problems in our squad. Why spend 72 million on a winger when Mustafi and Soktratis are were our best centre backs and we had Saka and Nelson coming back in. The squad was already imbalanced and we failed to address the right areas. Fast forward to this date and the same problem is here.

Great stuff from Arteta. Wonder how the board will react since Wenger isn't around to cover for them.

Even though our billionaire owner probably makes enough money on insterest to pay for everyone's wages by the time he finishes his morning coffee, let alone make Arsenal a winning team again without a sweat, COVID's got him covered.

While I’m not disagreeing with the blowing the money on Pepe bit, the club did actually buy a top rated CB in Saliba that window, it’s just that he hasn’t played yet.

Arteta talked about replicating the Liverpool model this week, so remember that they found their guy, VVD, and although they could have panicked and switch targets when Celtic* Southampton played hardball, they instead stayed calm and waited a year to bring him in and he’s transformed them. Hopefully our top priority CB has the same effect.

*Edit, thanks for the reminder/correction @balthazar

Remember when Sp**s and Liverpool bought a bunch of crap players when they sold Bale and Suarez respectively. To me its like a club first has some real money and has no idea how what to do with it. As you can see most of the signings below were flops or ended up as squad players. IMO, only Eriksen and Henderson became important players for their respective clubs. Lamela, Lallana and Origi became dependable squad players but they're certainly not starters.

The most that I can take from this is, when you sign poor players you either hope they become decent squad players or you actively try to get them out. It's a shame that Arsenal have tried rather stupidly to make Xhaka and Mustafi into good players when history suggests its a lot easier just to get rid. If we are truly trying to change, Arteta has to admit to himself its not worth giving guys like this any more chances.

Sp**s bought:
Soldaldo 26 million
Lamela 30 million
Capoue 8.8 million
Chichres 8.5 million
Paulinho 17 million
Chadli 6 million
Eriksen 11.5 million

Liverpool Suarez money bought:
Lallana 25 million
Lovren 20 million
Markovic 20 million
Balotelli 16 million
Moreno 12 million
Origi 10 million
Can 10.5 million
Lambert 4 million

Liverpool Daglish money bought:
Downing 22.8 million
Henderson 18 millon
Adam 8.8 million
Enrique 8.0 million
Coates 8.0 million

Arsenal StatDNA:
Xhaka 40.5 million (FFFFFFFFFFFFFFSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS)
Mustafi 36.9 million
Lucas Perez 18 million
Holding 2.7 million
Asano 3.6 million
Elneny 5 million
Soktratis 17.8 million
Mavrapanos 4 million

The main issue at hand is that there has to be a coherent recruitment policy/strategy as it relates to squad building. Michael Edwards has done an amazing job for Liverpool and surely they are the blueprint when it comes to efficiently selling assets and reinvesting it in a smart squad-building strategy based on the coaches philosophy and the profiles necessary to carry them out.

I always said that Edu would earn his corn in the following Summer after his appointment - COVID obviously has changed things slightly but the fact is we'll still get a Summer Window. That's where we'll see the start of how we plan to move forward. How brave is Edu gonna be? Will Arteta be on the same page? Ideally the profile of the team should look very different by 2022.

Southampton rather than Celtic?

big clearout at Valencia..
Would take Parejo here in a heartbeat. Criminally underrated player at a decent age that can solve a huge chunk of our midfield problems. He is pretty much an all round midfielder. Could be a Santi like move.

Could be a game changer for Arteta. He could do with a Spanish general in the middle who can orchestrate play.

Yeah, he does look pretty damn slow tbh. Wouldn't mind taking Kondogbia in a swap with Torreira and selling off Xhaka to finance a permanent deal for Ceballos and Partey.

Ceballos permanent with Partey and Kondogbia is an upgrade on the senior players we have whilst we can attempt to go after a creative mid too.

I'm wondering if with Torreira, Xhaka, Douzi, Auba, Bellerin, Mustafi, Sokratis, Kolasinac, AMN, Holding and Laca we could finance a huge overhaul of the squad with loans, swaps and free transfers.

Imagine this.

Strikers- Edouard, Jovic (Loan), Martinelli, Nketiah
Wingers- Depay/Maxim, Pepe, Saka, Martinelli, Kostic, Willian
Attaking Mid- Coutinho, Ødegaard (Loan), ESR
Central Mid- Partey, Ceballos, Kondogbia/Sangare, Roca
Left back- Tierney, Kostic, Saka
Right back- Atal, Aarons/Bogle, Cedric
Center Back- Luiz, Gabriel/Pau Torres, Saliba, Chambers, Mari, Sarr
GK- Leno, Emi, Butland/Forster

Loaned out- Nelson and Willock

Do you seriously reckon that we would bring in 10-11 new players? Come on mate....

Nah we won't but you never know. I'm more just thinking if we would overhaul a huge chunk of the squad, what would be our possibilities of hitting the right balance.

Stupidly unrealistic. We will keep the core of our squad the same. Arteta clearly wants to spend big on 3 or 4 that will make a proper difference.

Upamecano - £40M
Aouar - £40m
Partey - £42M

Is a bare minimum just to challenge for top 4.
