Isn’t that a very exciting young team? If we got a team like this I would be fully behind project Edu/Arteta.

Martinez is a risk worth taking imo even if we’re worried about different league/playing as a second striker to Lukaku.

why is this a good thing? A young team not at their peak is a team for the future. And where is our captain? auba has 2 seasons he scored 22 league goals for us....Martinez has never been close to that in seria a

Thank you, A-M is obsessed with age and how young players are. They even use it to justify us signing average players just because they fit the preferred age bracket for signings.

In some areas you need experience, especially at the back, in midfield and in terms of goal scorers. Having a young team doesn't necessarily mean a whole lot.

Chelsea team that won the CL had 6 players 29 or over. Yet we have fans who says we should only buy players who has not entered their prime. Footballers are at their best between 27-32

Italy in the Euro's too, 9 players over 30 in their squad. Experience is underrated by football fans.

Of course it's true that most players peak from age 25 - 30 and as a result, most of the more successful teams have a lot of experienced players.

The logic of targeting mostly players in the 22-25 age bracket should be clear though; it's about looking at what they offer in the round - if you spend big money on "proven", top class talent in the 28+ bracket then firstly they come in with huge wages; secondly we've had questions about their motivations and desire in the past and finally it's rare that they will improve much and more likely they will decline.

If these signings don't work out then moving them on is difficult and as senior players they can also cause squad issues. They have little to no resale value as well in most cases.

The reverse is true of the younger age bracket - they have lower wages and are hungry for titles and the next contract; they are far more likely to improve year on year and easier to shift if they don't. Banking the value of the improvement enables significant reinvestment in the squad over time.

No one is saying "fill the squad full of kids". Partey was a universally popular signing and we have experience in goal, defence, midfield and our attack already. It's about recognizing where we are as a club right now, and patiently building towards success rather than having a short term attitude which has caught out even ManU who have far greater resources than us.

We don’t spend money like Chelsea who can afford to sign 27-28 year olds and then replace them easily with other big money signings(already talks of moving on Werner/Ziyech).

Of course we need experienced players, the team above is a bit over board but our squad needs a complete overhaul whilst looking to the future. So I wouldnt mind that young team above and then signing players in their prime in the subsequent transfer windows.

Btw I rate Auba but last season was a joke. He got that big money contract and then just coasted...think we will see more of the same this season. Imo he’s just another player who duped us for that last big contract.

Anyways, we don’t need a striker this summer, CM+AM are the most important positions.

The point is we cannot afford or attract good experience players that will move the needle enough.

the two experienced players and leaders in our team produced the most unforced errors last year. Xhaka and Luis, not forgetting the car crash that is William.

Since we can’t compete on those terms, building a dynamic, hungry and talented young team is a a good strategy. No doubt inconsistent, but a team that will improve and the supporters can get behind..

we just spend 50 million on a Cb with 1 season in the pl. we can afford experienced players

For better context ‘we cannot afford players whose value falls off a cliff’

White, I would hazard a guess, was considered worth the fee because of his profile. If we manage his contract correctly (unlikely) he’ll play for us for many years, or be sold for profit or recoup a large proportion of his purchase fee.

/edit and what he says below

Look at Varane for example.

His transfer fee is cheap, and for the sake of it let’s say his wages were lower at 250k a week.

Could we financially sign him? Yes. But would he sign for us? No, because a top player in his prime wouldn’t join a club which hasn’t had CL football for the last couple of seasons.

So that’s why I think we should sign young hungry players who have room to improve. As a club we won’t be signing bonafide stars for a while....even Martinez feels out of our league.

There is literally no argument for getting Abraham over Martinez. We are talking about Argentinas starting striker who has played as a lone forward for them btw.

He wont win flick ons, but he is Alexis like in the air. He will score headers with good deliveries. He attacks the ball more in the box more than tammy does. It needs to fall to Abraham.

Martinez is two footed, no back lift, dribbling ability, creative and so young for a forward. I would love this signing. Bellerin + 50 million.

Your negativity is such a breath of fresh air, every single day I wake up to your posts and just breathe and realise how happy everyone is.

Banter when we come out of this by signing Alexis.

Martinez is brilliant. Shame on anybody turning their nose up at him. He's one of the most exciting players In world football. Barring Mbappe and Haaland, he's probably the 3rd best young forward.

I doubt very much we could attract him, but boy it would be a huge signing if we could. I'd have full faith in Arteta and the board.

I definitely favour our approach of building the core of the team with players under 25 in the hope we have an excellent side in 3-4 years time. As you say we can't afford to fill the whole team with Partey like signings both when factoring in transfer fees, resale and wages.

It worked brilliantly for Liverpool, they signed the likes of Mane, Salah, Firminho, Robertson when they were 23-24 years old and they became a brilliant side with a lot of players at their peak together.

I just worry that our fan base won't have the patience to see it to fruition. We must have the youngest squad in the Premier League now I would imagine, we need to be patient with them as we will lose matches because of inconsistency and naivety.

So we trade Heccy for Martinez. We’d have to sell Laca and Nketiah. And we’re **** at selling. Maybe we enquired about Lautaro but I really don’t see this happening at all.

Unless, UNLESS, what if, the Xhaka turnaround is because the club feel they have a chance or Martinez and are reshuffling the transfer funds?
