Signing Jesus who looked amazing when he first signed and Trossard looked a very smart short term stop gap, could end up actually being two terrible signings overall...as we just cannot seem to move on from players at the right time these days.

As both just look like they will significantly hold us back from signing better players that we need.

i would be open to trossard renewing his contract until 2027 (not 2029)

but only if arteta would use him in the #8 position against teams who play defensively/low block. i think he can cook in that position. let him focus on left 8 as his main position and you can still use him as your backup third option left winger if necessary.

that way you can bring in a new starting 11 quality left winger (martinelli only good enough as a back up/rotation option imo) while simultaneously fixing our lack of creativity issue in the 8 position.

it's time that arteta starts making tactical midfield decisions based on what the game needs instead of always just playing your best 3 midfielders. sometimes you need rice as the #8 and sometimes you need a more creative player in that position. then you have to either play rice as the most defensive midfielder or play zubimendi in that position and leave rice out of the game.

trossard, nwaneri and Ødegaard as 8 and 10 options. play 2 out of 3 of these options together in certain games we expect to dominate or are struggling and i promise you we will be a way more entertaining and creative team next season. and a proper goalscoring striker (i like gyokeres) and a left winger who is also creative (would have loved kvaratskhelia) and we will be a force next season.

The hope is if you’re ringfencing money for “big name” signings you don’t have to dilute it by signing a Trossard replacement.

Signing a Semenyo or Mitoma type would eat up a lot of budget. This is the cheaper option.

This seems like the likely scenario to me. Desperate to add quality to the starting XI so you might need to accept some less than ideal solutions for depth, in this case Trossard in his early 30's.

This makes sense if that player is isak if it's VG or Sesko you gotta sit there scratching ur head.

Not necessarily, could also be several players. Instead of having to go out and spend £35m on a replacement you can keep that and spend it on other deals to get them over the line, like Gyokeres + Williams or something like that.

The bench is genuinely dire, especially up front. I don't think Trossard is a world beater by any means but as the last guy on the bench I think you can do a lot worse. The main problem right now is he's simply just too important which he shouldn't be if you're trying to win the league.

Make him ostensibly irrelevant but still available if needed and you've done good business.

We need two wide players tbh along with a striker. Someone like a Kuddus would help hugely. Versatile, strong as an ox with the technique to be able to decide games.

Yeah as a squaddie he is great to have.
We need depth to take minutes to rest our key place while say on lead and killing games or in cups.

Him signing a contract doesn't mean we won't get a LW either. People are just catastrophising.

More squad depth is what we need. Imagine Trossard as an attacking option on the bench instead of Sterling or Butler-Oyedeji.

Getting a new LW while keeping Martinelli and Trossard is unrealistic. Meanwhile, on the right it's Saka and Nwaneri, that won't get minutes unless Saka gets injured again.

In this scenario we'd still be unbalanced, this time on the right and on the wage books.
