Solskjaer's Spiral Curls

I don't know. I've got so many more annoying Man U fan friends that I find myself wishing that Sp**s win it. Truth is this is a devalued Europa now you don't get teams from the UCL dropping down into it anymore. Winning will give a feel good feeling for them but it's really not what a big club really craves. It's a tournament for 4th -8th ranking teams across the continent, nothing more. Don't let anyone gaslight you that winning is harder or more noteworthy than reaching the semis of the real elite competition, the UCL. If winning trophies at any level is what matters then why don't we get relegated and vie for the championship. And prove that we can get 'over the line'.

I wouldn't come out of this feeling like European champions, it's just an entry to the Champions League which given our league season and Ten Hag didn't seem possible at all. But given how terrible we've been the amount of trophies we've accumulated isn't bad at all. Think if we do beat Sp**s for it it does add a lot more value to be honest.

Which one would struggle worse if they lost?

If it’s truly judgment day for Utd (doubt it) then alas I’d like them to lose
Sp**s have no European football and likely no manager with an average squad if they lose.

Sp**s. Utd keep the manager no matter what and their owners will keep running a tight ship. They won't be splashing out on £250k a week players any time soon even with CL football. Sp**s lose and they have no European football (and the money that comes with it) and they will have to look for another manager with the job not being very enticing.

You have won more trophies the last 2 years than Arteta has won the last 5 years.

But i thought them keeping ange would be beneficial to us? He might walk at season end anyway, or mutual agreement.

Thats what I imagined as well, Utd are 3 time CL winners in terms of legacy this would be an FA cup equivalent or slightly higher, still a great achievement but the main prize would be entry into the CL.

It's better to win a trophy than not winning a trophy. That Arsenal fans argue otherwise these days is just sad. But that's the Arteta effect.
This is just the kind of reasoning I am trying to counter. It's more nuanced than that. It depends on what trophy you win and what else you do. Otherwise by that reasoning it would be better to win the Carabao cup and be relegated in a year than to come second in the premier league and be the losing finalist in the UCL. And that surely cannot be right. Of course everyone wants to win a trophy. But there are still other measures of progress. We have regressed in the premier league (at least points wise) but we have gone a step further in the UCL.

I'm sure Wigan, Birmingham, Portsmouth and Leicester all remember their cup wins.

There's a reason Newcastle celebrated like crazy winning the League Cup. I'm sure that will stick in the memories for them more than any run where they made the top 6.

Can you remember how many points we ended up with in 2009, 2011 or 2013?

I'm sure we all remember Ramsey's winners in the FA Cup, Cazorla's free kick and running riot against Aston Villa.

A trophy is a trophy and good teams win them. I'd take Wenger's triple FA cup winners over this lot any day.

It's not just the destination that matters, but also the journey. If lucking into a couple mid tier trophies is a bigger achievment than challenging for the biggest trophies while playing dominant football over the last 3 years then we have a different understanding what this sport should be about.

He's a class act, but the culture of that club has always been an upstairs problem. He's not changing that.

It's wrong coming out just before the EL final. But again even if he win it I can't see utd even get close to be very stable and top club again.

They just lost the pride to play for the shirt 16th in league is just embarrassing we talking about utd not wolves

Context is important here, he's not just saying this freely.

He's being asked in the presser, why his players are turning up in the Europa League and downing tools in the Premier League. There's noticeable lack of effort, and he's saying it's unacceptable and if it happens again next season then he understands he's not the guy.

That's just an easy excuse. Yeah sure he can't compete at the top with all the issues upstairs but surely that doesn't stop him playing comprehensively beaten by any team in the league not called Leicester or Soton?

What is the excuse for him to be doing substantially worse then Ten Hag? Who was seen as way out of his depth. He has to take some responsibility with his coaching, playing 5 at the back then replacing a CB with a CB each and every game etc.

It’s genuinely hilarious that they could finish 16th and still have an arguably better season than us.

Arsenal Quotes

I want a fan to wake up in the morning and say, “Arsenal are playing today, I’m going to have a good time.” That guy starts his day off by thinking that something good is going to happen to him. And to do that, big clubs like Arsenal have to have the ambition to play spectacularly. Of shared happiness.
