In a sense that red card is the worst that could happen for United, the team suddenly had to take the initiative against a defensive setup and looked clueless around the box.

Hugely damaging result for Carrick, but everyone saw this coming. They had a poor summer as well and any United fan that thought they’d suddenly challenge for the league was beyond deluded.

It’s incredibly difficult to go from top 4 to title challenge. But they don’t help themselves by making dumb decisions all the time.

Question is how long can they afford to do this? Are they too big to fail? Or does there come a point where the club has gone so far down the toilet that the United brand just doesn’t have the pull anymore

As soon as they have to take the initiative and actually create rather than sit back and counter they have absolutely nothing. It was wild, like they were the ones down a man.

The incredible (and wonderful) thing to me is that seemingly not a single person in the entire Manchester United universe has clocked onto the real problem here, which is that they’ve had 10 different managers and 10 different systems and 10 different recruitment cycles to fit those 10 different systems over the last decade.

And then – every single year – they expect some new manager to take over this Frankenstein monster mess of a team and squad and instantly be on the level of settled elite Pep/Arteta/Klopp teams competing for the title. It’s just totally wild.

Arteta in his first season was 8th. Klopp in his first season was 8th. SAF in his first season was 8th. Even Pep in his first year won nothing and needed a big late run just to keep City in the UCL.

And yet again this year, same thing and Carrick will be gone by Christmas and some new manager will be coming in with new players for his new system and the cycle begins again. Long may it continue.

Most obvious disaster of a managerial appointment.

So predictable he’s going to get sacked before Christmas and they’ve flushed yet another year down the toilet.

Wonder if they just firm it? I can’t think of a manager who’ll go in and turn it around.

I think maybe Emery is best placed? But he seems too weak maybe and scared of big clubs. I’m

"Since the 2022–23 campaign, Bruno Fernandes has lost possession the most in the Premier League, giving the ball away 2,609 times"

Creative players do take risks hence they can lose the ball a few times but Bruno Fernandes takes the biscuit. He is just constantly trying to spam through balls, regardless of the situation. The type of play that might get you individual reward eventually but to the detriment of the team as you are surrendering any hope of control.

Look at this game for example. A typical game for him. He was trying to make an incisive pass almost each time he got the ball. And guess what? He lost possession 15 times...the most of any player in the game. He even nearly played in Haaland on goal one time. But in the 96th minute it finally worked and he played in Mbeumo on goal for a great chance. In summary he had a bad game but now imagine Mbeumo scored, he would have been hailed a hero with another assist. Completely forgetting he lost the most possession and contributed to his team losing control of the midfield.

Quoting myself from last year :

In the NHL, there's a pretty universally understood concept of a 'bad team scorer' - a talented individual player who can put up impressive-looking statistics if they're the offensive centerpiece of a poor/flawed team, but whose play style/3-zone play just doesn't fit on an actual quality contending team.

Bruno Fernandes is the football version of this. He'll put up 20+ G/A if the entire structure of a crappy Europa/mid-table United team is built around him and have moments of real brilliance, but there's no way his selfish play/turnovers/lazy off-the-ball play would ever fly for City/Arsenal/Real Madrid/Bayern etc.

Also explains why he is a complete non entity in international tournaments. I rate Bruno as a player but he won’t ever get the leash he gets at Man United. He’s not disciplined enough to play for a top team in this current era.

That's such a fantastic analogue

Probably Nagelsmann right seen as he’s not gone into a job after the World Cup?

Do not rate the guy at all. Failure to failure to failure.

He is basically that 30 TD, 30 Turnover Jameis Winston season as a player. Haven’t followed NFL in for some time now as AR12 fell off. Who is the best comparison now?

And their silly fans will defend him and hail him as the best player in the league/best CAM in the world while celebrating his individual trophy as some sort of club trophy. While they've never even been close to a title race or something while he's been there. They've been closer to getting relegated than winning the title in fact. But they are happy to celebrate the bruno fc trophy.

Surprised the media have gone against Bruno in the Foden situation. Thought they'd back him for sure.

How possible that this "Wembley of the North" that they're planning on building becomes a colossal financial albatross that keeps spiralling out of control to the point where they're relying entirely on playing kids to stay solvent? Sort of like we had to for during the first 10 years of the Emirates stadium era.

I would love to see them go on a Liverpool like title drought.

Liverpool took 19 years. By 2027 they will have gone 15 years and they probably don't have a single player that would function in a league winners squad bar maybe Yoru and Sesko in future
