the video Sp**s put out of training looked like King was the guy running it rather than Mason

Why is 29 year Ryan Mason, who has never managed a game in his life, the caretaker manager, and 51 year old Chris Powell, who has managerial experience over the last decade, the caretaker assistant manager?

Why is the 29 year old white man with no experience the manager and the 51 year old black man with experience the assistant?

Imagine Stephen A Smith right now if this was the NBA or NFL.

My bet is that they wanted someone with upside. Someone who could possibly take over as the permanent manager if he does a good job. I don't know how Ryan Mason is like as a football mind, but they might be attempting to find their own Nagelsmann since they probably don't have a shot at getting the actual one.

Nah, there is absolutely 0% chance of that happening. He is a purely interim manager, there's no reason whatsoever why they couldn't have given Powell the job over Mason.

Every interim manager is a "purely interim manager" until they are not, so that doesn't make much sense. Giving jobs to inexperienced former players is a growing trend, so it's not as implausible as it would be in the past.

They also named Nigel Gibbs, a 55 year-old white man with previous experience as a caretaker, an interim assistant manager alongside Chris Powell. To jump to the racial discrimination conclusion is cherry-picking in bad faith, imo.

Mason is not comparable to Arteta. He's there until the summer when he'll be replaced.
