Think they're still in trouble. There's no broader strategic vision driving their transfer activity; they're too captive to the whims of whichever manager is in charge. That's been the case for a while, but it's gone to another level since Levy's departure and the loss of the continuity he provided.

For instance, until recently they had a clear policy of signing high-potential youngsters with strong resale value, players like Bergvall, Vušković, and others. Now, after two consecutive seasons flirting with relegation, they're seemingly pivoting towards signing more established stars. In doing so, they risk alienating those younger players and may end up selling them for far less than they'll ultimately be worth.

This is really just another consequence of being overly beholden to the manager, which is particularly unwise when that manager is someone like RDZ, who isn't exactly known for sticking around long term.
