Life after Wenger | Ornstein: Arsenal set to appoint Unai Emery

Do you think Emery will get the club back on an upwards trajectory?

What i want is someone who's prepared to stay here long time.

I take great pride in being one of the last big clubs in european football who doesn't change their manager depending on where the wind blows.

Bayern/Madrid/Barca changes managers regularly and they remain the best clubs in the world even with new managers. There are a lot of virtues to term limits in managers, a manager who has been to many different setups has an experience advantage that career managers can't match.

Bayern/Madrid/Barca may change managers often but they their core players have remain almost the same for better part of last decade.

Can't get away with changing managers every year or two at club with lesser player basis.

Strongly suspect we'll appoint Henry after Wenger goes.

Who cares anymore anyway, more important things going on in the world.

That's why it's important - football's there to take our minds off all that **** but right now with Arsenal, it's s**t there too...

If yesterdays tactical masterclass by Juventus didn't prove as an eye opener for the naysayers about how paramount a stern defense is as opposed to flair and all out attack, nothing ever will.

Triumphant teams are ALWAYS built on a solid defensive foundation. You need not look further than to our last 5 title wins and the first 4 were won by the back 5 of George Graham, which won 2 with him and proceeded to win another two with Arsène.

Some will certainly argue that you need stalwarts like Chiellini & Bonucci to build one, which is true to an extent, but its not set in stone. Failing the opportunity to buy/develop such players, you can always fall back on the basics of defense and apply tactics that will nullify your opponent and that comes with appointing the right manager.

Allegri's cautious but measured approach has won me over and I certainly hope we go for him once we unburden ourselves of Arsène.

A well drilled team can take on any attack. They may need some luck to get through but they'll be in the fight until the last whistle.

Precisely. Yet its clear when looking at the photos of team training is that they're either taking things easy or are not being drilled into a cohesive unit. We're in need of a shake up as soon as the curtain falls on this farce of a season.

We're really going to reject two mangers in the semi finals of the champions league, that have rebuilt their teams, aren't we?

The fact that, as a supporter, you're still mystified as to how this board is disconnected from the realities on the ground & acting in detriment to the clubs long term goals astounds me.

Not only are we going to reject them, we're rewarding our "greatest ever" manager to stay on & continue his adventures despite failing on all fronts

If Juve win Champions League this year, wonder if Allegri would be open to a move. What more would he have left to accomplish in Italy? Would be a dream successor to Wenger!

Allegri is probably my #1 choice, but it's important to not overlook the defensive unit he's working with at Juve. Buffon and the back line are top notch. Of course Allegri deserves a lot of credit for their defensive solidity, but they have by far the best defensive unit in football today.

Sol Campbell, L:auren, Kolo Toure and Ashley Cole were not George Graham signings. Don't pick and choose what you remember.

If Allegri does win the CL, and is genuinely interested in coming here, it would be criminal not to offer him a contract.

Certainly not, all of them either purchased under Arsène's tenure (Campbell, Lauren & Toure) or brought through the youth system during his time.

My point still stands as, although three of them were integral in our last double triumph, Dixon, Keown, Adams & Seaman were regular fixtures that season and they were most definitely Graham's lads.

Press conference, London, June 2017:

"Arsenal FC are pleased to announce the unveiling of the first team's new manager from Vietnam, Auldwynin Nu Botl."

The new man, clad in a traditional hat & an Arsenal tracksuit, strides out to enthusiastic applause that curiously begins to reduce rather rapidly as he takes his place at the table.

John Cross: "Auldwynin, you look vaguely familiar. Who are you?"

The manager adjusts his hat slightly and raises his head. A collective gasp emanates from the crowd. He smiles, leans towards the microphone and utters the following line:
