We should find out today if the latest bid has been accepted and whether Man U have genuine interest in trying to outbid us here.

We can debate all day about which position he starts / covers but the bottom line is that he looks like a classy player - ball winner. Elite passer. Good in the air. Can dribble in tight spaces as well. Think this guy improves our squad and I hope we get it done.

We don't even have to speculate his planned position so much.

Ornstein states it clearly. Wanted for LCB / LB. We lack one left-footed LCB and proper Tierney rotation while Tierney didn't run up and down the field so much last season.

People read Ornstein like Bible here, but in this matter they ignore what he says about his planned position. 🤷‍♂️

Cheers Mitch, way to kill the buzz 🤣

A very good underrated player (technically underrated, could pick out a pass and not just typical 90s physical DCM). Why England Managers overlooked Wise for that glogger David Batty is beyond me.

Also for those wetting themselves about how centre backs have to be tall, its worth pointing out that Fabio Cannavaro was 5"9.
He isn't cannavaro though is he. There is always an exception.
Waiting for the match ups against Nunez and Haaland :D

I would gladly swap Tierney for Zinchenko.
Tierney used to overlap and knock crosses in for fun when he arrived. Not sure if this has been curtailed by injuries or tactics... (when he isnt on the treatment table that is). No point having a best 11 if a lot are regularly injured.

I assume the problem with anyone signing Zinchenko for LB is that he might want to play his preferred midfield role in the future.

As a backup I assume he is okay with that, but I have doubts if he wants to start there.

Tierney can still get over his injuries, and with a long contract we are not selling him surely for cheap when his value is low.

I quite liked Wise as well tbf. Bit of a mad dog on the pitch. Definitely picking up those vibes from this crazy Argentine baller

Seems like a pointless signing unless he's going to be our new CB. I would rather pay over the odds for a proper CM though.

But I'm not doubting the process.

Martinez has the same height and nationality as Daniel Passarella so here we go. We are about to sign a generational talent! Welcome to the Arsenal! This is so depressing.

I have a theory, probably bollocks but eh I'll throw it out there. A few months back Edu talked about different Summer transfer plans depending on where we finished in the league and which competition we qualified for.

With Champions League I think we would have looked at more specialist players.

With Europa League and reduced budget we are looking at versatile players that can fill a few roles.

Vieira, Martinez and to a lesser extent Raphina and Jesus all fit this pattern so far.

After all of that talk from Edu after the FV signing, it would be very embarassing for us to lose our two top targets to our direct competitors...

Noticed hard man from Scotland still isn’t training.

Hopefully this lad is wanted for LB so we can sell the sicknote.
I'm a fan of Tierney but part of the reason we missed top 4 last season was because of his injury. Martinez comes here and I feel like Tierney will be spending alot of time on the bench.
That said, if Tomiyasu has more issues himself then he'll also follow the path to the bench.

Its also about options for tactical flexibility. Tierney is best as an attacking wide full back, and can't play every game. Martinez can go up the flank, but better as a narrower distributer from deep. On the right we have Tomi who is a defensive monster and can do tidy middle third build up with both feet, comfortable inverting, and Cedric (upgrade in due course) who is only good in the opposition half, but is a good crosser and knows how to retain possession in that position.
Also if gives us 2 CB partnerships who can play high line. Gab/White & Martinez/Saliba - not sure I fancy White & Martinez too often, but otherwise good balance.
The fact he can cover DM competently, and is an amazing long passer if given time, also allows us to move on from Xhaka next summer, as he could step in for the games we double pivot.

Not married to his signing due to price/other priorities, but having seen him a lot, I reckon he'd be a fan favourite fairly quickly - competitive streak a mile wide without being rash or dirty.

Inflation or whatever it’s called. Players on average are taller now compared to that generation.
So? Sagna was one of our smallest players and an absolute beast in the air.
Cannavaro was also short for a CB but bossed it in a generation of elite CF's.

No he's not as good defensively, but its still a strength, and hes much better on the ball. Also, as an aside, Cannavaro didn't really begin to be the player we know until he was nearly 24, so there's time yet!

You need both types ideally. And Tierney needs to play less so he can be the 100% effort at all times player he is. Will also help now we'll have strikers who unlike Laca run into the box and unlike Auba are willing to compete for headers.

Arsenal Quotes

When you start supporting a football club, you don’t support it because of the trophies, or a player, or history, you support it because you found yourself somewhere there; found a place where you belong.
