With martinez and tomiyasu in the fullback positions we are hardly going to improve on our goal scoring problem.

Last season we had the 6th best attacking record and the 8th best defensive record. I think Tets is still keen to tighten up defence.

If there's a 50M budget to spend for immediate reinforcement after the striker department, It's definitely the LB/LWB position. Lisandro is a great candidate and the club should make him a priority.
How have we concluded that the player can play LB/LWB. He plays CB and DM. Is it because he is left footed.

We need a new LB. A real one to push Tierney.

Because he left footed and short so people correlate to LB when all his career he has played centrally, in a very similar way of Masherano. An because people is assuming Arteta is going to use double inverted FBs which is something we never do with Tierney.

It's kind of weird. We bought Tomi, who is not an RB. Now we want to buy Martinze, who is not an LB. Doesn't make any sense.
Tomiyasu is excellent though too be fair. If we get another player like that we'll have done well, so long as we find some balance in the team elsewhere

Imagine if we have 3-4 players in the back and in DM that can actually play these killer balls almost perfectly every time.

Martinez, White, to some extend Gabriel and I suppose Saliba as well (have not watched him when he was in Marseille).

When you have Saka, Raphinha, Jesus, Martinelli up top, that is some pretty devastating combination for opposing defenses.

Then Ødegaard, ESR, Vieira and Xhaka Who know how to get the attackers in positions - we would have quite some team, if we get all of our targets.

On top of that, we have like 3-4 extremely exciting youngsters coming up. If there's only one of those close to Saka's or ESR's level, ..

Hes played there before an by looking at his style of play, he would surely be ideal for Arteta there. In the spell between Jan-March, where we looked a proper team, the left back (Tierney) didn't bomb on much, he stayed back more and provovided balance in build up.

This bloke surely looks ideal for that. Fullbacks also now get the most time on the ball as teams tend to press the middle of the pitch, so he'd actually get more time on the ball at left back. Give this bloke time on the ball and the opposition have a problem, he looks and by all accounts is elite in that department.

He’s played left back 6 times in the last 4 seasons. Hasn’t played LB in the last two seasons. He is a Central defender who can rotate to DM occasionally. The data does not lie.

If we sign him, we would play him where he is comfortable. Which is as a backup for Gabriel if we do not change from a 4-3-3.

people saying he’d be an inverted LB etc etc with attacking 8s etc like yh I get it. But it would be weird to buy Tavares and then loan him out a year later and replace him with a completely opposite player, no?

If that’s what he wants the LB to do why did they buy Tavares, who clearly can’t do that

Not really. Tavares is trash. What would be weird is insisting on a player who shown he is not even pl level player

Is it that weird?

Arteta and Edu are prone to drastic shifts in stragery. It went from needing proven and experienced players to young lads. We wanted guys like Tammy/Vlahovic/DCL now seemingly going with a guy like Jesus at CF.

If anything think it fits the patten lol.

I think it's clear at this point that Tavares is not quite ready as a LB in a 4ATB system, so it makes sense for him to be moved on temporarily for him to develop his tactical awareness and decision making. In the meantime we get a player who is comfortable in a number of positions and can provide adequate cover at LB in a 4 ATB system if needed.
