His circumstances are tragic, but we shouldn't be losing out financially. There's two things:

- If he needs compassionate leave then we should support that and so should Atleti
- If he wants to go back to South America to be near his family then he needs to find a move where we don't lose money. He signed a contract in the knowledge he was moving to England and has been paid millions. We can't just let him off the hook to our loss because he regrets it.

When you sing a contract for a job you can quit isn't it? Or do you think you can't and you don't have rights as human and a worker?

Or do you think you lose them because this involves more money?

Of course he could quit. But then he wouldn't be able to play for Boca or anyone for the remainder of his contract. Up to him

How does that benefit us? If we get a good young player back that’s better than just wasting money on a non-playing Torreira.

It's about cutting our losses, we are in our current situation because we ****ed up when we allowed Torreira to go on loan to Atletico with no obligation to buy. We are too soft and allowed Atletico to bully us. Now we need to stand our ground and make it clear that we will not be bullied into selling Torreira way below his market price. If we don't do that things are just going to be harder when it comes to selling other guys like AMN and Guendouzi. Clubs know that we are pussies and can be lowballed.

Football doesn't and can't be allowed to operate like that....

Otherwise you'd just have players quitting clubs and signing for new ones the next day 🙄

hm yeah call me naive but personally I wouldn't be cool supporting a club that was prepared to make a player 'rot in the reserves' cos he's profoundly unhappy after the death of his mother and wants to be closer to his family.

Like I feel as if there must be a better compromise, like sure 'protect the asset' as much as you can, but also y'know life is precious and don't be a c*nt? Just a thought.

Letting ‘players rot in the reserves’ is the stupidest **** people love to bring up all the time. There’s a reason no proper club operates like that.

No rational reasons, purely vindictive.

**** this ****. The player is an asset worth a few mil to us either we get our money’s worth or he doesn’t get his move. It’s up to him to try and find someone to buy him he can suck d1cks to get it for all I care. We are not a charity we need money and he’s our asset that only goes if we get money for it.

Except every club operate like that............. there are countless examples of what happens to players who try to force a move and don't get their way. The irrational way for a club to operate is to let a player leave them for cheap just because he is not happy.

Except there is none.. Name one big club that last let a player «rot in the reserves».

Just to elaborate. If we were to let Torreira rot in the reserves, he would have sporting just cause to terminate his contract after a season(assuming his agent did his job properly).

The situation seems clear enough to me. We have a player who does not suit us and one we don't want. We have to sell. The player will only go to South America and there are limited funds and options there. He says he doesn't care about the money. I would try for a £18m-£20m fee knowing we might have to work our way down. It'll probably be payable over four years. I'd take a lower fee for a sell on clause just in case he gets a taste for Europe again. The other alternative is a two year loan with all his wages paid and a decent loan fee. What isn't an option is dumping him in the reserves to rot on full pay. It's another poor Raul transfer that we'll have to make the best out of.

Wenger would let him go, for a nominal fee. That’s a man of class and honour though, look at the clowns we have now.

Poor Lucas.

Wenger wouldn’t have signed him in the first place though, not for 25M anyway. The guy is dreadful with the ball.
