Manchester City: Pep Guardiover

Definitely a GOAT level manager. The consistency that his team reached isnt something you can just buy in a league full of rich teams. City was never that dominant before he turned up and neither was Chelsea when they were the sole financially doped up club so there is obviously more to it than just money.

I respect Pep as one of the best to ever do it, his ability to tactically innovate and improve/carve out weird and wonderful roles for some players has to be commended.

Yes City’s budget allowed him to ‘fail quickly’ with certain players but the good he did far outweighed the bad if you put your bias aside.

As for city, shame! Pep was the most importantly employee at that club both in terms of player pull and turning signings into on pitch performance.

Pep’s reputation should be on par with Lance Armstrongs. The praise he is going to get will be sickening all things considered, and I hope it will be tarnished once the 115 comes home to roost.

Lance Armstrong is overhated by people who don’t watch cycling. You could even argue he didn’t do that much wrong.

Similar to Pep imo. Hated because he’s the greatest imo.

Think Maresca is a decent signing for City tbh. I didn’t rate him much at Chelsea but when you see what we was working with I think he did a pretty good job and shouldn’t have left.

Not sure he’ll have them challenge for a title but comfortably keep them top 3 imo.
Yeah he seems to be pretty decent when you factor everything in.

Still think Arteta should be the best manager in the league now but let’s see what Maresca cooks with a solid structure behind him. Apparently Chelsea are going to stop treating players like trading cards too because Alonso is manager not head coach? Could be interesting.

Also i don't believe the city squad didn't know Pep is leaving and just know about it few days ago.

City were preparing for life after Pep since December and no surprise Maresca was the fav to take over even when he was at chelsea.

Yeah I read Chelsea want to go after experience now but I’ll believe it when I see it. Plus outside his stint at Bayer, Alonso is pretty inexperienced so no guarantees he’s the coach people think he is.

His Madrid move was terrible and I don’t think a club like Chelsea is much better, but you never know.

Most importantly he's one of few guy in football with personality and charisma, and a source of many memes. I'll miss him.

Also Maresca is very decent coach Chelsea are dumb to let him go. however it's extremely difficult to copy what Pep was doing he managed to keep City competing and win titles for years it's difficult to keep that.

He is second only to Fergie for me ( excluding Arsène) in PL history.

If he had done it at Liverpool or Man Utd maybe he's be top for me but the financial allegations against Man City taint his achievements there for me.

Fergie built Man Utd and their financial dominance was made off his back, you can't say that for Pep.

In the last 10 years only one league title had been won by a non bald manager (yes Conte is a slaphead under the wig).

Great work from City locking down a good bald manager.

His first season at Barca was going beyond expectations now? They finished 3rd with aging stars like Deco and Ronaldinho, nobody thought they’d win the treble the following season.

It seemed it at the time but he had prime Messi, Henry, Etoo, Xavi, Puyol and Iniesta. Which is insane levels of talent. Even had Yaya Toure and Hleb as back ups.

Henry wasn’t in his prime and Pep had the foresight to move Messi infield instead of having him stuck on the wing.

That's not true, Ferguson spent loads before he ever started winning trophies. Pallister Webb Ince etc were all bought for significant fees before he ever won anything

Arsenal Quotes

Thierry Henry was very quick at analysing everything that was going on and how he needed to react. This intelligence, this capacity to evaluate, understand and question oneself, is also the mark of great players... For everyone, for the fans and for us, he symbolised the golden age of Arsenal.
