Should Ødegaard stay or go?

  • Keep him

  • Sell him

Ahh... the winds are beginning to shift. Fellow Gooners, there comes a time when a player takes you as far as he can get. Ødegaard isn't going to get better. Ødegaard's embellishments, even in the simplest of plays, hurts the team. Ødegaard, absolutely is a ZERO threat on goal, and it was obvious today. Eze is our starting 10, I stated this a while back. If we want a dancer, then Ødegaard is your man...

He was largely very secure, I agree. On another day, his performance would have been quietly appreciated. I just don't think he's as threatening as I'd like him to be considering he's our primary #10.
Eze's all-round play and security is not at Ødegaard's level but the unpredictability and ability to carve out danger from nothing is a welcome change.
Missing the point. We need to be a different team. Ødegaard is a good possession player, but we need a goal scorer at 10. Nobody cares if we pass the ball around all match. He is free to come on and do that when we have a 3-0 lead.

We have turned one of the best playmakers in 2022-2024 into some weird pressing merchant now, such a shame.

Seems like you're missing my point tbh. You're not saying anything I'm not saying here . I'd love to see Eze or Ethan get more opportunities to give that role a bit more punch and directness as I much prefer that (hence the welcome change comment) but that's obviously not what the manager wants nor can he seemingly accommodate at this time, much to my own chagrin - this is due to a combo of Arteta's risk averseness in spite of the strength of his options and Eze/Nwaneri's own difficulty in sustaining their impact over a 90 minute game presently.

I’m saying this narrative of why Ødegaard should auto-start is a false one and the sooner everyone finds it less tolerable the earlier we will get change.

Eze sustained his impact against Sp**s it seems. And as I said, Ødegaard is free to play the last 20 minutes.

Foden is now a 10. Contrast him with Ødegaard.

There are women with emergency c sections who look better after weeks than this guy has after his kids birth. What the hell is wrong with him, genuinely looks unwell.
That is why Son Heung-min father advised him not to have kids during his football career. Your focus should be 100% on football and not your family when you are still a professional.

Tough away games like yesterday ,the 10 has to protect the ball under challenges recycle find a shirt he can't.

Good performance, showed bright spots. World class pass to I think it was Gyokeres. Got into that pocket we used to love where he is feeding Saka into the byline, his pass to Saka led to the goal. It wasn’t like it was a crazy elite pass but it’s the pattern we came to love from him to feed Saka.

Started to get comfortable driving the ball in the 2nd half.

It was a 7.5/10, it showed promise.

It seems a lot of fans have made up their mind on him, and focus on the things they don’t like about his game vs what he can add.

I do think a lot of the recycling gets unnecessary moans considering that’s coming from the manager. However, he does need to be more brave when on the edge of the opposition box and he showed that yday.

It’s a promising performance. Not a top one, but a promising one.

That is literally what he’s saying

Thing is, Eze isn't the answer in that role either for me. He doesn't get involved enough. Neither ideal 10s in a 4231.

They can both do it, but they struggle for different reasons. Ødegaard has too much responsibility across every phase, while Eze is still learning how to be effective in a possession-based system.

The main issue is cohesion. Once the players build better relationships, you’ll see far more consistency and quality from that role.

Arsenal Quotes

I believe one of the best things about managing people is that we can influence lives in a positive way. That’s basically what a manager is about. When I can do that, I am very happy.
