He's had good games, but nothing similar to what we've seen. Even Saka, with a mixed season and injury woes, has shown glimpses of what he brings.

If we have the chance to upgrade on him, I would def take it. Good player, and I'm sympathetic to his start stop seasons, but I'm not seeing a convincing upward trajectory here.

The problem is he's almost never on that level. I recall only second half againt Villa this season when he was very good.

You right, that was good sub appearance (though I would argue, not on that best level still). But it doesn't change the point, that he's rarely good.
And i get it, that the fault doesn’t always lie solely with the player. Team tactics, teammates poor form, and so on - all various factors come into play.

I'm not making him the scapegoat, i just think we should try to improve, and try our luck with someone else

It's really not a night to crap on players. He did his best. He should have had an assist to Havertz that would have seen us 2 goals up and strolling to a victory. People will forget that now because the result hasn't gone our way. I've been as critical of him as anyone but it's no good to kill the guy tonight.

He didn't really do anything wrong and the joke is that Vitinha who is supposed to be the best midfielder in the world really wasn't any better. Every midfielder on the pitch was outshone by 19 year old MLS. If the penalties he didn't take part in went differently, nobody would be crucifying him.

I also think we need to get rid of the squad vote to appoint the captain. It's a great system for new managers to maintain squad harmony, but it doesn't work in the long term.

The current system puts the onus on players to challenge the hierarchy, and everyone knows it's easier to accept the status quo.

I also think it's very telling Rice got appointed captain vs Sporting by the squad after Saka + Ode were out. They know he should be the captain of the club, but the players only overruled the hierarchy when the big hitters were out.
