Should Ødegaard stay or go?

  • Keep him

  • Sell him

Curious... Would you guys prefer to keep Ødegaard pulling the strings, or have Eze doing it (or Rogers etc)..Eze may step up next season but for me Ødegaard is fantastic at giving us a cute ball when teams are sat deep (not so good at the shooting though)...
People always say they want us to upgrade, but most of the time you would want the guy we already have over the one we bring in if they were both at alternate clubs..

I'm torn on this at the moment. If you look at Eze & Ødegaard's headline numbers from last year they are pretty close in terms of productivity - Ødegaard getting 6 league assists from less than 1400 minutes, Eze with 7 goals from 1800ish.

Eze brings something different but I'm not sure he's first choice above Ødegaard based on last season at least. Ode has that level of control and awareness that is so useful at the top level. It's a question of form and fitness for me - if Ødegaard stays fit I think we'll see more from him. I was also reading an interesting post saying that Arsenal fans are judging him wrong - if they viewed his contribution more from the perspective of a controlling 8 rather than a creative 10 then we'd be more favourable... I wonder if there's something in that tbh. I could see him doing a Jorginho type role from deeper at he gets older. I think they'll be enough minutes for both of them and they may play together more as well

Morgan Rogers always looks like a more physical Eze profile when I've seen him play - short pass, move, dribble, shoot. Less about control, through balls and passing range. But he's interesting and I think he's possibly better than Eze fwiw

Eze doesn't do enough for me. If Ødegaard can't be relied on then we need someone better than Eze imo. Eze is a good squad player he ain't the guy taking the attack to new heights in the CL etc. Ødegaard obviously wasn't good against PSG but Eze was equally bad when he came on with fresh legs for example. Eze just goes missing/not involved in the game way too much for my liking to play that role. A lot of his passing is sloppy too.

Of course he does other things well like being a goal threat but we need more I think.

That why Arteta wants Scott . Scott can do Ødegaard's job
Rogers - Rice - Scott is very balance

Scott is the right profile to replace Ødegaard but I'm not sure he's creative enough. I don't think he has a high creative ceiling. Kid managed 1 assist all season.

Eze all day.

Ødegaard is more broken than what happens to unprotected young female character in GRR Martin novel.

Football's full of "What it's" but if we get Ødegaard and Saka's form back next year we should start really flying again

It's been 2 years tho.

At the very least we need to be thinking about replacing Ødegaard, be it with Rodgers, Ethan (which would mean changing how we build play) or getting someone who can dictate tempo and get more final balls.

Ødegaard's gotten some of his more metronome qualities back, but what worries me with him is how out of place him slowing down the tempo looks, specially when there's a forward pass to be made and he refuses to play it.

It's whats been getting people on Zubi's case, as well, but it's worse with Ode because that sort of pass should be his bread and butter.

Him and Zubimendi together really kills us.

First half of the season zubi makes those passes, he was really good during that time and I think it's fair to give him the chance to show that again consistently.

I know Ode has had a torrid time with injuries and that plays a part, but the out of synchness is what worries me most.

Maybe, just like with Martinelli post Xhaka exit + Jesus injury, we've moved on from him as a team?

Happened to a few of our players.

Yeah I can't argue with that. 2 years, but if you look at his production, it's mostly down to injuries and minutes played rather than being actually bad for most of the time on the pitch... Question for me is whether he's a crock now or not. He's never relied on pace particularly so I'm inclined to give Ødegaard more time, at least in terms of keeping him in the squad but I agree it's a problem either way.

I'm not sure Eze or Rogers are whole the answer either. Both useful players but just different on the ball to what Ødegaard brings... Nwaneri actually could be the answer centrally but he's not trusted / possibly or too young or too raw. I don't know, he looked like he maybe could step up last season centrally but his bad loan complicates the situation.

I'd have a lot more time for Ode if the plan was to actually platform Ethan, but I've made my peace with him likely being sold this summer to generate funds.

Arteta ruined him

Yes he has a title but he was fully transformed into a streets will forget, vapid footballer. It's the only reason he still has some support, everyone is aware he wasn't this when he arrived here.

All the noises seem to suggest this at the moment, but we've been here before with Saliba and I wouldn't be enormously surprised if Ethan comes back into the squad and splits minutes with Ode/Eze depending on injuries and the game-state. If he can get 1500 minutes, all comps then that's fine at his age - you'd fear for him with Rogers coming in though for sure.
