Should Ødegaard stay or go?

  • Keep him

  • Sell him

People hated these three with a passion and they got insulted, whereas many wonder if Ødegaard can return to the heights we’ve seen.

Lacazette was basically a fat twerking whore to many of you on here.

Not quite the same and tbh a bit tiresome watching you guys making Ødegaard out to be a victim.

Disagree with you there. The idea Ødegaard is talked about reasonably just isn’t true. People, including you iirc, ridicule his physique in a similar way to how Laca was ridiculed which you’ve mentioned. One was fat and one is a twig who’d get knocked over by a slight breeze, that’s how they’re spoken about.

If it was unfair for Laca then it’s unfair for Ødegaard no?

Acting like Ødegaard cops the same abuse as “Lizzozette” is disingenuous. Comparing the Shenequa type disses Lacazette got from you guys to calling Ødegaard a twig is also very weird.

Lacazette in his last thread was discussed as one of the worst signings in the clubs history by a few of you it’s nowhere near the same. People wished injury on Xhaka in their desperation for him not to play for us.

Trying to put Ødegaard in this category is snowflake stuff.

I don’t share your perspective here. Ødegaard is a divisive figure on here (not so much irl, where he’s more universally popular). Even when he signed and was playing better he was getting a weird amount of ridicule from some on here, for being ‘weak’ and ‘unmanly’ or something.

I’m not gonna quantify how much different players have been unfairly ridiculed or hated on compared to others cos it’s sort of unquantifiable, but Ødegaard is clearly one of them just like Laca and others were previously.

Forget the point about mockery for a min, just in terms of people discussing his qualities, many on here are almost insistent that Ødegaard is just a bad player, and others think he’s a great player. There was that same divide with Xhaka.

Ødegaard won the league and captained Arsenal to a CL final while we were in the Europa league for 7 years straight with Lacazette. He was awful.

Those other guys like Özil and Giroud won a FA Cup but were getting humiliated all the time in big games.

Right now Ødegaard and this group are the best players since the invincible, those 2010s era guys were flops.

I wasn’t one of these as I said he was class from day one, but scepticism for a new signing isn’t a crime as we have signed plenty of duds.

Was it to the level of ex Chelsea players? No.

Ofcourse you’re not, but I have caught personal abuse for just liking and defending players you guys didn’t like. Absolute dickheads like @BigPoppaPump and other randoms calling me Pepe’s concubine for example.

Do you get that for defending Ødegaard? Again no.

Where?

Firstly I don’t think I was one abusing Laca or dunking on Pepe so you’re talking about others there.

Hydro said Ode wasn’t worth 50k a week the other day

Anyway mate I just don’t think you can call people out for calling Laca fat when you’ve been calling Ode a twig. Especially when one is a PL captain (albeit in poor form) and the other was a Europa league player.

My original point was Ode gets unjustified hate on here and that stands.

I just think people like you aren’t used to seeing slander when it comes to guys you like.

My point was never to chastise you guys for your black fat jokes that’s a given for a lot of you on here, I’m more pointing out some of you pick and choose when it suits.

Getting a bit dainty over Ødegaard when overwhelming majority with sense can see he’s a good player and one of the best when on it - I just don’t understand.

Saying Ødegaard isn’t fit to captain or start for a title winning CL finalist team does not = bad. Hate is an exaggeration and Ødegaard can recover his standing with a period of good form still.

When a player is this divisive both sides always have valid points.

You don’t get to this level of divisive just because one side simply decide to be unreasonable lol.

Look fly the flag for Ødegaard if you want, as captain, one of our better players and ambassadors for the club he absolutely deserves it.

Me personally knowing how ruthless and competitive Arteta is along with the physical style we play, I feel like Ødegaard’s days as undisputed number 1 are numbered if he keeps this current form.

That is just an uninformed opinion from a sofa expert, not disrespect or an insult.

He gets a weird amount of disrespect on here from the sauce squad and their acolytes. That’s all I’ll say.

4 pages of back to back compliments, quotes from Brazilian NT and I see sly sauce squad stuff when me and one or two others posted some doubts, I just think why?

Ode barely contributed this season, we won the league without him.

I don't think this iteration of A-M have experienced a world-class player fall off. I personally can't remember the last time we kept a top class player long enough to see signs of decline, probably Özil/Sanchez but those were more due to age, so it's easier to accept I guess.

Rashford, Leao, Palmer, Foden. Off the top of my head these are young guys who just like Ødegaard were having world class seasons, had all the hype and had people thinking they were going to go on and cement themslves as top players for the next 5+ years. They've all stalled now, but they're still talented players who with some luck could return to those levels right? Well no according to here, that's only limited to Arsenal players.

Why are we allowed to hope that Ødegaard goes back to his 22-24 levels with no impetus to do so but anybody who wants to sign Leao or Rashford and hope we can jumpstart their career gets laughed at as a fanboy who just loves signings. Why is the opinion that 27 year old Ødegaard might have seen the best of his days as a 23 year old blasphemy but 28yo rashford and 27yo Leao are undoubtedly finished at the top level?

Idk if it's the style of modern football or if I'm only noticing it now but a lot of players peak in their early twenties, never get the right move or the right coach and end up having the best years of their career as a ~23 year old. Ødegaard is the first player we've seen it happen too during this project and there's a lot of cope going on.

We all collectively gave him the 25-26 season to prove himself, he didn't, yet we're still here having the same arguments as last year.

Thoughts on Bruno letting his country down while Ødegaard propels his to a QF?
Some players are good for their NT but not club, some are good for club but not NT. That's basically it.

@Trilly we’ve seen older and worse run it back so it’s kinda like write Ødegaard off at your own peril.

Pretending he’s overly disrespected or endangered species I’m just not trying to hear. Some doubt comes with the territory in his position.

Yeah, I'm also hoping he can run it back too. There's a quality player in there for sure, but how many times have we said this about non-arsenal players just to get laughed out of the room?

He's had two brilliant seasons and three so-so ones yet you can't question if he's worth keeping on wages of 300kpw (which is what he'll probably be renewed on). It's interesting what's going on.

I think he was getting pretty unfair treatment on here for most of the season and it verged into personal attacks and ridicule. I didn’t really get involved but I think at a certain point it’s worth standing up for him. People, including yourself iirc, basically question whether he’s medically underweight, even tho he’s a professional footballer and clearly just on the lean side.

BTW his form has clearly been disappointing last 2 seasons compared to before that, and if Arteta decides to replace him i wouldn’t object cos there are valid reasons.

He’s a frustrating player as he has clear shortcomings but at the same time it’s probably quite difficult to replace what he does. Exact same thing with Xhaka.

But beyond his sporting attributes he’s essentially a pretty inoffensive guy so I don’t know why he triggers some posters.

Just to weigh in on this quickly.

Do you think what you've mentioned is just as disrespectful as Laca being called fat, Lizzo and all the fat/out of breath jokes that insued? I think that's where I struggle to understand your point. Like fat shaming is actually a thing in wider society, skinny/lean shaming isn't.

Arsenal Quotes

The coach's role is to make the player understand everything that serves the interest of the game. To do this he must speak to the child within each player, to the adolescent he was and the adult he is now. Too often a coach tends only to speak to the adult, issuing commands for performance, for victory, for reflection, to the detriment of the child who is playing for pleasure, living in the present.
