Ødegaard has clearly lost weight for whatever reason compared to 2-3 years ago.

Frankly he is physically frail and it does have an affect on his ability to do parts of his job as a footballer. He is beyond feeble in the challenge in a way he wasn't previously. That's not a good thing and there's nothing wrong with us as fans recognising the fact.

As a footballer you should be in good physical condition, it's part of your responsibility as an athlete.

The only out he'd have is if he has some private medical issue causing his weight to drop off, which we'd all hope isn't the case.

Again though, “frail” and “feeble”, it’s just a bit OTT, it’s like you’re describing an arthritic pensioner  He’s a 27 year old pro footballer. Yh he could be bigger and stronger but he obviously gets by.

His issue is those injuries he had and the fact he seems to have forgotten how to shoot.

See that's the thing though. If BoT was calling him fat and Lizzo then there would be no doubt he was trying to be disrepectful.

But I know he isn't a poster who gets personal with players, so when he calls him frail and feeble it's just genuinely describing what he thinks are the players' weaknesses. I think most of the peole who comment on his weight or 'weakness' aren't being disrespectful.

I'm calling him frail and feeble in the context of his job as a professional footballer, which is increasingly athletically based.

I do think in that context frail and feeble are accurate descriptions of his physical state / decline.

I don't think it's controversial to call him frail and feeble. If you put a pic of Ødegaard 22-24 vs what he is now you'll see a clear physical difference. Back then, not only was he excellent in attacking areas but he was also very physically robust and not afraid to put himself about in challenges. Nowadays he basically avoids contact which for a guy who is more of a CM now is a big no no.

I like Ødegaard as a guy and he's done a lot for us over the years, so I'm not a hater or have anything against him personally.

But if you're a sportsman in a high profile sport and you put on / lose a noticeable amount of weight to the point it affects your physical performance on the pitch, fans are going to comment on it. I don't see anything wrong with that.

Agree with @dashsnow17 that the way people at times have spoken about Ødegaard’s physique hasn’t always been in good taste, and frequently does come with an implicit (sometimes explicit) disparagement of his masculinity (comments on his personality/leadership style often do this as well).

Also agree with @Uncle Macho that this is unfortunately nothing new, and many players have caught it much worse.

I think most people can delineate between when someone is making an earnest observation and expressing genuine interest (or even some good natured bantz), vs. when someone is just being a prick, though.

Yeah, if I saw someone with Ødegaard's body type in the street I wouldn't think they were frail or feeble.

But we're dealing with a PL footballer, a professional athlete who's job is increasingly reliant on his physical capabilities.

He looks pretty fit for Norway.

He's playing at a good intensity multiple times per week.

I reckon he was holding back in the season to ensure he was fully fit for this world cup, which I am not a fan of at all, but you can kind of understand the reasoning.

Idk, I think words like frail for a pro athlete are a bit much. You could just say he’s underpowered and needs to bulk up. It’s like calling an athlete fat, when clearly no pro footballer is actually fat.

Not saying it’s as insulting as Lizzo, that’s obviously a different level.

But for a PL level footballer he is physically frail when compared to his peers( most fans wouldn't even bring this up if he was always like this and hadn't noticeably dropped weight)

You can't judge these guys by the standards we have for people we see in the street.

I hope Ødegaard never gets the physicality of the average premier league player. He's quick with his feet and brains, hopefully he prioritizes that and not how strong he is.

Surprised to see so many wengeristas turn on him
"Wengeristas" turned on a vastly superior talent in Özil when his performances dipped below the level we knew he was capable of. The idea that liking a player means you should just pretend that them operating blow their level is acceptable or normal makes no sense. He's shown himself to be capable of far more than what he has given the past 2 seasons and that is the chief reason people are disappointed in what they've seen from him. If he hadn't previously put him in conversations as the best midfielder in the league then there wouldn't be this level of disappointment with his drop off.

I have to say I’ve never considered this. Seems like a bit of a reach to me but I won’t be ignorant and discount the possibility.

I thought it was just because he does appear to be on the skinny side for a footballer + seems to keep picking up injuries + is quite bad in duels.

He is weak, always been weak and he been looking weaker than before in last two years. Its where the jokes come from.

Sure its unfair and we all need to grow up but on pure professional level he is one of the weakest player to ever play for us. Weaker than Özil for sure.

Yeah Özil is one of the greatest midfielders of all time kiddo. Talent wise, there's absolutely no contest. Ødegaard absolutely applies himself more out of possession but Özil was an actual genius on the ball. There's nothing Ødegaard can do with the ball that Özil didn't do better.

Just watched a video of Pablo Zabaleta praising Ødegaard. It's 10 minutes long though so not going bother posting here due to attention span issues in the A-M user base.

Seems he's maybe a footballers' footballer, if you know what I mean. If you have to ask you'll never know, etc.
It's the same with Havertz and Madueke, all their coaches love them and try to get them into the team but stupid Arsenal fans hate them because they're not French with dreadlocks and a silly dance.
