This is why I said he had a good performance for himself and not for the team.

He had a good CM performance but the team arguably needed more penetration from him as an AM. Now you can argue his role was that of an 8 rather than a 10, in which case I'm not sure the dynamics were right. Say what you want about Eze's all round contribution but we've performed quite well as a team with basically the midifeld being Rice-Zubi and Eze being a clear 10. With Ødegaard back it feels a bit overkill with CMs in midfield.

Ode is the only midfielder being able to control the speed of a game in our midfield. Eze is a moment player

Ødegaard’s the one who controls tempo, Eze’s more of a moments guy. But Eze can grow that part of his game over time. They’re just different types of 10s.

For now Ødegaard’s better in that role, and Eze makes more sense off the left if he plays like a narrow creator with fullbacks overlapping. If Arteta can’t spot the balance, that’s on him

The problem with Ødegaard is that Ødegaard and Rice has been there for 3 years and they have the worse chemistry ive seen for midfielders in top club, they barely look for each other in the opposing team half, hard to do something with a midfield like that.

Facts. I’m shocked more Arsenal fans don’t see this. It barely gets mentioned. The only time they consistently played well together was in the second half of 23/24

Honestly, we've looked so much better & more dangerous, creative & faster tempo'd with Eze in he #10 role before Ødegaard came back. Ødegaard just passes the ball around too slowly & sometimes looks like he's purely waiting & looking for Saka to come nearby & taking on shots rather then looking for anyone else.

Do we look to move him on & get a good LW replacement so we can move Eze back to our long term number 10 role or somehow keep him as cover or see how he goes moving him deeper into more of a deeper playmaker role?

When Ødegaard is on the pitch, his actions follow a very clear and repeatable pattern. He frequently drops into deeper areas to receive the ball and initiate the build-up. From there, he primarily looks to combine with Saka or White. Ødegaard will either carry the ball inside to create a shooting opportunity or look to create chances for others.
Against Villa, it was clear that our attack lacked balance once again, with the majority of our progression and chance creation coming down the right side.
Against Sp***, Eze is always in the center to collect the ball, Ødegaard is always at the right side...

If that is his current pure role then fair enough if he's got no particular reason to look around on the left, however if that is the case, how do we use Eze, our current 1st choice LW or do we change a little bit in the formation, use Eze as the same but down the left side & leaves us with only starting 1 of Zubi/Rice in the same role?

Raya
Timber Saliba Gabriel Cala
CM
Ødegaard Eze
Saka Gyokeres LW (Trossard, Martinelli).

It's hard to say at the moment imo. Eze certainly looks good as an advanced playmaker but in saying that as the case, I think we'd have to have him centrally as the creator for both sides, wings.

I'd like to know the stat of how many times Ødegaard touches the ball before releasing it.

Would like to compare that stat with other arsenal players as well as other AMs in the league.

We should replace him next window. Thanks God Arteta pushed for Eze but we need one more. I'll be very disappointed if I see both Ødegaard and Martinelli next year here.

No need to spend big on #10. It's a matter of time until Nwaneri is the starting #10

I don't frequent here too often but thought I'd put up a post about young martin and it seems most people are thinking the same way.

my biggest concern over the last few games is the ability of teams to run through our midfield, villa dominated us in the midfield and although brugge didnt dominate they were constantly breaking on us.

Firstly i should say he is a great player but i am starting to think his positioning is becoming an issue. Ødegaard has a real bad habit of dropping back infront of our defenders and picking the ball up off of them, this in turn pushes zubi and rice further up the pitch. The moment a turn over occurs our 2 strongest midfielders are bypassed and its a free run at our defence, this happened a lot against brugge. In many instances rice is rapid and can get back to save the day but when merino is played (who runs like he is carrying a piano on his back) there is no recovery cover.

to make matters worse Viktor is suffering big time, there is a complete lack of service, he needs a true number 10 behind him and i believe Ødegaard is good enough for that but when you are 30 yards from the striker you cant always thread the ball through an eye of a needle.

something needs to change.
