Well so far he's shown absolutely noting to suggest he's even gonna match Özil's 2nd contract which is the point I'm making. And there's been a lot of comparisons to Özil for Ødegaard talking about how he offers what Özil didn't.
He’s gonna have up and down games, that’s what we signed up for when we handed over the keys to these young creative players.

The guy dragged his feet leaving Madrid, if he was a worldie like some of you demand, he would never be here.

Nothing Wrong With Me
Poor game from Ødegaard but how many others were also poor? Auba, Tierney & Tomi were all way below par. The enthusiasm for the Sp**s game compared to this were miles apart. Why? Ok Brighton are a far better side than Sp**s but we simply lacked any kind of passion, with the exception of ESR.

Not saying that at all.

This was a pretty tough away fixture against a well-organized team in terrible conditions. Do I want him to be better? Of course. Am I willing to give a young player who had been playing well a pass on one bad game? Also yes. It happens.

I mean, he scored the match-winning goal two matches ago and then was outstanding against Sp**s.
It sounds like people just expect him to be poor anytime we have a tough away fixture, this should not be acceptable.

Some lovely touches against Sp**s but he still lacks a right foot, is still weak in 50’s and is still uncomfortable when real pressure is put on him and the team. Sp**s didn’t have a competitive midfield and Brighton did. He’s a player that makes a attacking game states better when he’s playing well but does not do much to change game states. If Arsenal are keeping the ball well he will help us do it better and give some incision but if we aren’t then he often becomes pointless.

I've said it before, but I'll hammer the point home, Özil's performances in his last few months playing here by far and I mean FAR trump anything Ødegaard has shown us but in typical A-M style the odd assists, the odd goal and a good 45 minutes against West Ham combined with a bit of running about had A-M with their knickers even wetter than from the NLD talking about how he offers what Özil could not.

It's like this forum just lives in a complete alternate reality to justify their own confirmation bias and just see things which aren't there. Ødegaard is a fairly talented player, but he's nowhere and never will be near Özil peak levels. Absolutely no chance. At this age Özil was going to the Nou Camp and producing title winning moments, he certainly wasn't being dragged off because he was being outplayed by 42 year old Lallana.

Why are you so bitter and trying to rub it in AM's face every time a player's performance suits your agenda?

Why even bring out Özil? No one was comparing the two and we all accept he's not the finish product.

He was rubbish against Brighton but those kind of performances will creep in from time to time. We're playing a ver young team so consistency will be a problem.

I'll do whatever I want, thanks for your concern in my affairs.

Özil was getting slaughtered on here and there was comparisons. He's been mediocre or below most of his time here and people are pretending and kidding themselves otherwise.

It's just funny how you're nowhere to be seen when a player performs and only come up blazing when someone is rubbish while accusing the whole forum how delusional it was/is about that player. Never miss a chance like a clockwork. :D

He literally scored us the winning goal two games ago and was involved in the buildup to all three goals in last week's demolition of Sp**s. He may or may not end up making the grade here but it's a bit premature to steam in on him don't you think?

I dont think its premature to judge the guy at all. He came from real madrid as a star or star in the making. Games like brighton he should be showing he is levels above adam lama. Aside from the players who joined us at the start of the season who hadnt played with us before those others should be judged harshly every week. Really we have 10 very hard games per season, the other games with investment and time arteta has had we should be winning those games.

Ødegaard will never reach peak Özil levels and there’s no shame in that, it’s not even necessary to be a success here.

I back him to comfortably match or outperform Özil’s 2nd contract here however.
Agree with that, but what I don't agree with is building a team around a player who is clearly far behind prime Cazorla and Özil. We should still be on the market for that position and look at Ode as a player who can fill different roles, but never should he be our default source of creativity. Saying that, I'm 100% Arteta will see him just the opposite of how I see him, meaning he will try to make Özil out of him and fans will eventually turn against the boy because of it

He's a good player, but not a player you build around, which to be fair I don't think the club are trying to do anyway. I think he should fulfil the role Eriksen had at Sp**s a few years ago, good playmaker, works hard for the team, helps connect the attack to defence ect.

Our big problem is we lack world class forwards. Auba is aging and Pepe is not of the required quality for a team striving for top 4. Want to see us go big for a LW and CF in the summer (as well as a manager).

I don't think Ødegaard is a problem, or will be either. He is soon only 23, and giving good performances already, and is good at most things. Really, he was pretty cheap in today's market.

Like you say, we need a top class striker (maybe who can cover the wing if necessary, and that needs to be a great talent to be able to do that. This could help us not needing to buy so many backup players, and we still have Auba for two years after this one.), and a top class midfielder to partner Partey.

Those two will elevate our team a lot, after that we can look if Ødegaard & ESR will become great or if we need someone.

Agreed. He's a good player to have, and moving forward expect him to be an important player. But you don't build teams around players like him, you build them around elite forwards and goalscorers. In my opinion we obviously need a long term replacement for Auba, and a right footed goalscorer/1v1 specialist on the left. We also do need a proper number 8 to play midfield. Those 3 positions are priority for me.

What I'm thinking is we for once buy real quality, now that our team is pretty balanced.

Not sure who would be that top class ST who could play ST & LW, but at this point it could be what we need to opt for. A striker like that means they are very good at most things.

How much would a top class CMF & ST cost in total? 150 million or more, unless we find a true bargain? That's why I suggested buying a ST like that at this point.

Not sure we have money to buy a top class LW in addition currently, in the coming year.
