Maturing into an absolute phenom right before our eyes.

When he’s on form he’s absolutely unplayable. There’s always a period in games where it’s a bit dull, he receives the ball then all of a sudden gaps start appearing.

He’s a sensation. He’s mastered that low shot into the corner from distance now too. I remember him mentioning he was told to shoot more - it’s paying dividends.

Captain Fantastic.

Just a little thing, but I hope he'll keep the 8 for the rest of his time here. Even if ESR leaves. Don't make the same mistake as Wilshere and Özil.
10 is cursed since Bergkamp left. 8 ist just fine.

Came here on loan as a young Madrid reject with many fans here opposing it and look how far he’s come. The way Teta has turned him around is something prime Wenger would be proud of.
What are you talking about? He played well in Spain years ago before we signed him. He was a prodigy as a teenager. Came to Arsenal and did exceedingly well right off the bat, Mik didn’t create Ødegaard he has been highly regarded since forever and came in and was instantly our best midfielder from day 1 of his loan. Edu robbed Madrid

10 didn't make Wilshere's bones and muscles brittle or Özil a Fortnite addict with no gumption. The 8 suits him because he really rolls his sleeves up and plays as an 8 now but he could be successful in any number. That lad is elite.

I've been a fan of him since he burst onto the stage at 15. What you're saying just isn't true. He was low on confidence, couldn't work around his lack of pace and strength and he often slowed us down because he was a too timid. He was obviously skillful, but I'll say most fans wre unconvinced. I was desperate for him to succeed with us, but even I wasn!t sure. Lacazette replaced him as support man for a while, and A-M was all for it.

In reality, he had been struggling ever since he got injured halfway through that season in Sociedad. He was on the verge of being coined mediocre until he upped his game 13 months ago.

We are lucky to have him, but coming here might have saved his career.

There's no might. Coming to Arsenal did have a massive impact on his career. He's now a household name in football wherever you go and is in the debate of top European midfielders currently. We need to thank Edu and Arteta for taking a huge risk and trusting him.

I didn’t follow him that much in Spain except reports he did well on loan at Sociedad, all i can say that I haven’t said is I remember him being our best midfielder from day 1. There is a natural maturation that takes place for guys of his quality, in the last couple of years it is normal for him if he is fit and playing regularly to settle and grow.

I legit didn’t believe that you would be able to rob Teta of credit for this one yet here you are. Have to admire the resilience.

He was electric for Real Sociedad. For awhile he was the second best player in la liga after Messi when he was there. That's why when we were first linked with him I wasn’t sure & thought of him as a wishlist player. But thankfully the loan happened & then we fleeced RM

This is way over the top. He wasn't even the most impressive player in the team he was in. He was good, but I wouldn't even put him top 10 for La Liga that season. IIRC he started the season incredibly well but then settled and was decent to good for the rest of it. If "for awhile" you mean a month or so, then fair enough I guess.

Remember that season because Cazorla returned to top form after almost losing his career, he was genuinely fantastic that season for Villareal. Was really a joy to see.

I put that "for awhile" in there for the reason you stated, it was like 2-3 month period. But that was enough to convince me he was the real deal. & cazorla was incredible when he returned to Villareal, didn’t think he still had it in him to be that great after such a terrible injury layoff

This was a signing that suited both the player and the club. Real Madrid recalling him from Real Sociedad, only to put him on the bench when their injury crisis was over, probably laid the foundation for Ødegaard looking for new pastures.

I've been critical of the decision to go to Real Madrid as a 16 year old. Haaland clearly got help to plan his career with stepping stone clubs. Ødegaard was sent down a path to arguably the biggest club in world football. Then again, as others have pointed out here, it's hard to turn down a club like Real Madrid.

Edu and the club often get criticised here, when it comes to selling players that criticism is likely justified. For sake of balance though, it's fair to say that the club got a bargain here. The decision to get Ødegaard in on loan, and then convince him to make the move permanently deserves credit.

Would Ødegaard have developed as well as a less important player at Real Madrid than as a vital cog at Arsenal? I think the answer to that is self evident. Hence the club got a bargain, and the player made the right decision for his career.

I really hope the talk of taking the captaincy off Ødegaard and giving it to Rice goes away now.

Ødegaard coming here initially with low confidence and now he's not just one of the first names on the team sheet but captain, that's the manager publicly putting his faith in Martin and he is paying that faith back in buckets.

Rice would be a good captain I'm sure, but it wouldn't enhance his game or confidence the way it has for Ødegaard.
