Question’s in the title really. Is he part of Edteta’s weird blond army or is he actually quality? Should we have gone for Buendia? Will this 35M deal be better than 60 for Maddison?

I think he’s pretty good, will he be good for us though?

Something lacking in his game is finishing 2-3 times at 2nd half he get himself in great position just to lose the ball and not take a shot.

Impressed with his workrate he helps team defensively too there one moment at 2nd half when Tierney was ahead and ode stopped the counter

It says alot when we are talking about his defensive display against norwich. Im happy he is putting the workrate in but also bemused in why we are having to use his energy and quality in that area of the pitch against norwich. Massive alarm bells are ringing for me when 4 defenders and 2 midfielders are deemed not enough to stop pukki.

Long term my worry for Ødegaard is we wont see him have freedom in the final 3rd enough to be the magician to get the front 3 playing ball.

Well thats what Arteta does as he does with Auba. Work them hard but also dull them.

The little backheel attempt to Saka that was so close to putting him through, then the lofted pass to Auba which the keeper blocked...loved those little moments, putting a lot of work in for the team too.

Once the team starts playing with more confidence, feel he will really be a star here.

Great work today I thought. Was my favorite player in the game, seemed to be a step ahead most of the time. I just need him to sort it out in the final 3rd (as with the rest of the attack, but honestly I think it's a Mikel problem).

Was watching him track back and felt it made much more sense than Auba.

Obviously Aubameyang was marking their fullback 3 seconds later, but it's still better than him being the one chasing players to the touch line to win it back.

Think he knows he has a point to prove and wants to show it.

That pass to Auba was great. I have a feeling he'll eventually transition into a deeper role/8. We've seen Arteta try it against city. Contrary to what the likes of Merson thinks, he does seem to combine well with ESR.

Makes you realize how special Özil was when you watch this guy. Good player with great potential but lacks the X factor Özil had.
You can say that about most players tbf.
Özil on his day one of the best players on the planet.
Problem was he virtually retired shortly after signing his fat last contract.
If Arsène who lets be honest 'indulged' him massively struggled to get a tune towards the end, any other manager would find it super difficult.
tbf to Mesut i think the demands of the prem were hard on him.

Why so serieuse?

Yeah, but Özil never chased back to defend a counter attack. Ødegaard is the modern midfielder in that regard, knows the defensive side of the game too. As a specialist 10 Özil was best in the world, no doubt.

Why are we comparing him with Özil? Ode doesn`t need to be as good as Özil to solve our current problems. Its not as if ESR or Buendia/Maddison (comparing them because of the poll in this thread) are anywhere close to Özil anyways.
I thought he had a very good first half. Seemed to tire a bit in the second half with decisions being a split second slower but still performed his defensive duties very well. I think it was because he was playing 90 mins for the 4th time in 10 days. Overall though, I think we still play way better with him in the team.

There are alot of players not better than ôzil, does not mean they are not good. To be fair, there are not many players in the world that i would say is better than prime ôzil. Thats the thing about prime thing, not really fair. Prime anyone big.

I want to disagree with you but my heart seemed to agree with you. Increased work rate but less end product. Somehow collectively its not like we got better defensively....we can only be successful if our pressing does actually create chances for us ala Liverpool despite lack of creativity from the middle.
