Poor man's Özil. Özil at his age was rocking in RM. If people didn't like Özil then why would you like someone who will never reach his level? Just get a CM and RB and use ESR there.

Özil at his age was a 100m+ player in today's market and wanted by every club in the world.

Bad comparison for us when we have to work in a situation without European football, we cannot attract everyone.

Ødegaard is more suited in European teams doing periodic tactics. His lacking in some physical attributes and constant inclination of cutting in is not ideal. To me, his time in London since January was not convincing. I also doubt how much Real will waive to let him move on.

Players from Norway quite hard to link on FUT.

Think Arsenal hierarchy need to give more consideration to this when making signings and maybe just stick to nations like France, Brazil etc :)

What a poisonous game mode. You should be ashamed bringing that name to these fine forums.

I know.

Just a little joke :)

Unfortunately though, after many years of playing, it's still the first thing that pops into my head when I see any transfer in any of the major leagues!!

If Øde has spent 3 seasons in germany getting regular football, at BvB or RB Leipzig, he would be a very different player now. He is totally underdeveloped vs where he should be.

Özil owes Bremen more than he does RM or Arsenal.

Happens to so many good but probably not great young players, who get lured into the very big clubs before they are ready and then stall without game time.

They need better advisors, but I can appreciate that it is tough when the bright lights are calling.

Doing what Haaland has done is a great example for others (although he may have been great from day 1 at a Real or City in hindsight!!).

His old man knew the reality of football. Make no mistake. Haaland is getting good advice. I find it really interesting that he is being linked with 2/3 of the biggest clubs in the world, and no ‘come and get me pleas’ no liking or following their social media. Just clips of him training hard and giving 100% even in preseason games. Football is full of prima donnas. The time is coming now where clubs will start overpaying for more desirable characters for their squad, Haaland is going to be high on that list.

You do realise he didn't actually sit on the bench for Real all this time? He's got 3 seasons of Dutch league and a full La liga season at Real Sociedad under his belt.

He's just not at the level to play for a team like Real Madrid.

I was just going to say that, over 100 first team appearances in the last 4 seasons while out on loan.

Yeah.

Seems that 'character' although hard to measure and in theory changeable would be a key attribute when the difference in true talent level of the vast majority of the top level guys (with the obvious superstar exceptions) is not that great.

Always wonder how a Balotteli or even a Pogba would have fared with a CR7 mindset and desire.

I would be interested what the effect of signing for your 'dream club' and then being farmed out for 4 seasons is.

Does is sow doubt into the mind as to whether one is actually good enough to make the grade, or just make the desire to succeed and prove oneself stronger?

I guess this is where the great intangibles of character etc.. come into play.

True, hard to tell the what that strategy has done to him mentally, as you say could go either way.

i do realise.

i specifically named BvB and RB because of recent pedigree in developing players, add Ajax and few others to the list. Arsenal would have been top of that list 15 years ago.

Your post proves my point to a degree, 100 games for other clubs, a loan move shouldn’t be about soulely getting game time, it should also be about developing the player in terms of technicality, mindset and culture. That is why i named the clubs above.

Sounds like more excuses for why he isn't good enough for the elite teams tbh

2020 quote
https://www.managingmadrid.com/2020...dinopathy-real-sociedad-doctor-javier-barrera

He has patellar tendinopathy in his right knee. It is a heavy injury that does not have 100% effective treatment. We have been testing what we had at our disposal: physical therapy, personalized exercise programs, regulating loads for training and games...We have talked with more people to see what can be done. The first weeks after confinement he was better, but against Real Madrid it hurt again and he played against Celta with discomfort. We have gone to Barcelona to explore another type of treatment with a specialist and are looking to avoid the operating room, something that we are not contemplating now. In the short term, we want him to be able to play while taking care of training loads and using physical therapy, taking into account his needs and the needs of the coach.
