A big club right now with genuine interest in the player would be just slapping down £60M in front of Wolves.
It would be a good pickup. We should be making pickups like this. However, we don’t.

This is a city esque elite depth signing. Not an immediate spot for him in the lineup but gives amazing depth as 2nd choice in multiple positions. If we sign him, we will see him raising our floor and just persist with him rather than pushing the boat out. Like trossard at LW and Havertz at CF.

We did it with Trossard and it turned out to be a great signing. Cunha is a better version.

However even though we spent low last season and the fans deserve it, we don’t get him AND the first team specialist signings imo.

I do believe we need to buy another winger during the summer even if we get Cunha now in january. We also need a striker (Sesko), midfielder (Zubimendi), centreback (no backup for Saliba) and a goalkeeper (Joan Garcia).

The outlays will be very high, but hopefully we'll be able to sell some players (Zinchenko, Martinelli, Trossard etc.). If he does contribute to either a longer CL run, or us winning the PL the extra couple of million pounds would really be nothing.
Despite how logical this sounds, unfortunately I doubt we do it. This club has rarely pushed the boat out and done ambitious + impressive things eg signing a few good players in one window, then pro actively selling more players who aren’t good enough to spend more money. They’ve never surprised us by doing something really pro active really.

The surprises have more come from doing something a big club would do, and there is excitement just because we don’t ever get treated (eg signing Özil despite our perpetual issue at DM, having 1 or 2 windows or spending big but leaving gaping gaps in the team) . But the ambitious clubs do it every season and built great teams, that’s why they win trophies and we don’t.

Yeah I think it's probably necessary to sign Cunha now if Sesko isn't doable.

I mean, judging by reports, and if we say Isak is undoable, you'd pretty much say that is Arteta's dream window for the midfield / forward areas.

So the question then becomes do we think we have the budget for that? What you talking, £240M or so for those 5?

If we don't have the budget, what position / player do you compromise on? I think this is why people are debating whether Cunha would be a smart pickup or not.

It’s what Liverpool have done, signing Jota, Gakpo etc. Adding the necessary depth to keep the squad fresh and competitive.

We just don’t operate like an elite club

Just going by reports and release clauses -

Zubimendi - £51M
Nico - £50M
Sesko - £65M
Cunha - £65M
Nypan - £10M

So yeah roughly £240M. The thing is we're at the start of another 3 year PSR cycle. So if there's a time to splash the cash it is indeed this summer.

The argument for now is do you get Cunha or wait for a cheaper alternative in the summer?

Need a backup GK and maybe a backup Defender too. Would be a £300m outlay.

Also you mentioned 2 players with release clauses there and conveniently mentioned their RC figure lol. If we do that we are ****ed cash flow wise. We would need to negotiate a higher fee to buy them normally. Add 10m minimum to each.

For me if we sign Cunha, he will be Trossard/Jesus replacement.

Dont be worried about this. We will sell Tomi, KT, Zinchenko, Kiwior, Nelson, Lokonga, Vieira, maybe Trossard and Jesus too. with Partey and Jorgi will leave i think we will be ok. But to do everything in the summer, its very hard.

Will the club see it that way? Will they see it that way if he gives us a new signing boost? I have never seen us sign someone who has excelled in the position and us just go “ok he’s been great but let’s add to it and build something special”. Instead it will be “ok he’s been great, lets give him a position in the first team”

We say this every year and this club does not do it the way we expect them to lol. They won’t sell half those players and won’t sign all these people we need for the title. Let’s see though I guess. The signals coming out the club are worrying me at the moment.

I agree with you tbh. Given the Zubi signing, if we sign Cunha I think it stops us signing either a LW or CF.

We’re not that type of club.

I do think there’s opportunity for a young CF, 18/19 if you could find one cheap.

Owners can pump £100M into transfers that's where id expect them to step in with those release clauses.

In all likelihood I think we sign Sesko, Cunha OR Williams and then Nypan/Zubi.

We won't get 3 forward minded players. If anything if we do get Cunha I'd expect a younger, cheaper winger.

We have assets to sell, so net spend aint as big.

Not about net spend really. Last summer we essentially spent £12-15M but recouped £80M on the books.

This summer for example we are free of Gabi and Parteys yearly payments. Next summer we will be free of payments from the Ben White summer spend.

That’s a Man City or Chelsea logic. In reality we need to sign 2 attackers as it is. Do we sign 3 60-70m attackers in 2025?
Nah, you can tell how we moved for an attacking signing by waiting until 11:59 to get Sterling that we are not willing to push to get this squad over the top.

We wait so long, prob for Sesko then N.Williams, Raphinha, and then look in the bargain basement.

Arsenal Quotes

I want a fan to wake up in the morning and say, “Arsenal are playing today, I’m going to have a good time.” That guy starts his day off by thinking that something good is going to happen to him. And to do that, big clubs like Arsenal have to have the ambition to play spectacularly. Of shared happiness.
