It doesn't matter where Liverpool are. They have been in the wilderness for many years but they always seem to get top money whenever they sell. It has nothing to do with reaching a CL final or even being in Europe.

Leicester finished 9th in 2019, that didn't stop them selling Maguire for £80m. Liverpool in 2016 finished 8th yet sold Benteke who clearly flopped at Liverpool for £30m. There are too many other examples where they somehow manage to ship out players for ridiculous amount of money. Mamadou Sakho didn't cover himself in glory and even had a fall out with the manager (which you would think would weaken their bargaining). He was sold for £26m. We on the other hand always sell very cheap, regardless if we just reached a CL final or even put in a title challenge.

There is always an excuse why we have to sell cheap. "The player only wants to go to this club"..used to justify selling Fabregas on the cheap....same scenario with Coutinho but very different outcome. Or to justify the pittance we got for RVP we get "he was on his last year of contract". Chelsea got £100m for Hazard when they were in exact same position.
