Rooney started playing games for Everton in the Premier League when he was 16. I think it's absolutely possible to gradually integrate Dowman into the team this year. He's too good for youth football at this point and doesn't benefit from dominating teenagers anymore.

A few other things about Rooney:

• He peaked in his early 20s. Until the age of 22, him and Ronaldo had an equally high ceiling. Ronaldo didn't play PL regularly for Sporting & then Man U until he was almost 18.
• While Rooney looked bigger than a normal 16 year old, like most boys, he didn't finish growing until he was about 21 (bone density, weight and muscle distribution etc) - people often mistake size for physical durability against adults and they are not the same thing
• The world was a very different place in 2002/3 - there was no social media or youtube to binge watch your own highlights as well as avoid ragebait. Max is very active on social media and the praise will quickly turn into unwarranted criticism even if he is exactly where he should be in his development - there's a mental wellbeing aspect to this as well

We absolutely can fast track his introduction to PL football, but if he does something like score an outrageous solo goal against Liverpool, the discourse will quickly move to things like England world cup calls, and when it doesn't happen or if it does and he makes a rash error like Rooney did with his red card v Portugal, someone will need to be there to keep his head on straight.

100% spot on with this.

It's not just football highlights and criticism, it's being watched 24/7 in their personal life which players could somewhat avoid back then.

He's 15, he is going to make mistakes off the field and in this country it will end up on social media and it will be everywhere and everyone will have an opinion.

Remember Rooney and granny prozzy thing, can you imagine that in 2025, the abuse would be relentless.

Even Lamine Yamal is struggling to navigate his personal life whilst being in the spotlight.

If he grows to be 6'3 he can be the next Van Basten. But he has more midfielder qualities than Nwaneri imo. His ball carrying is his best attribute and he has good passing vision, the kind you can't teach. Even though he plays pretty selfish most times.
