Crazy to think that pre Wenger in 1996, we were probably only the 3rd best team to watch in just London alone in terms of entertaining football...to arguably the most exciting team to watch in the world at our peak and also successful too.

I don't really mind how we play as long as we win trophies, but to do both (when not the richest team in the league too) is incredibly impressive.

Happy birthday to the GOAT!

We still played quality football after the stadium move, but I do get slightly annoyed when people post Emirates era goals rather than Highbury ones.

1997-2005 especially, that was peak Wengerball!
2005+ may have been Wenger ball on a shoe string, but it was still eye watering compared to other managers, even if it was a step lower for the great man himself.

Probably an unpopular opinion, but I'd say our most beautiful football came from the Emirates years, particularly when Fabregas was at the heart of our team. Those years where we would come up short, but have the whole world watching us because we were just breathtaking to watch.

It was more beautiful than the football played during the Invincible era.

You could see now that Wenger wanted that quick combination play, continental football, so that we could win the Champions League.

I think peak Wengerball was always better when it was a bit quicker, slice through teams at lighting speed...we just felt so dominant.

It was still very enjoyable, but The Emirates era kinda took some of that speed away for me.

2001/2002 is the best football we have ever played, maybe ever seen in this country too in terms of the allroundness of it (both individually and collectively)

More or less prime Henry alongside more or less prime Bergkamp, with Vieira behind them and Wenger as the coach...in terms of the variation and enjoyment, that's the peak for me.

I fully agree with that.

We played some mesmerizing football in 2001/02 and I'd say even a better version of it in 2002/03 (in which we just fell short of winning the PL due to injuries)

In those two seasons, you would often see opposition teams body language as that of a defeated one right from the tunnel, as we would score 2 or 3 goals in first 20 minutes and then entertain for the rest.

I am sure football purist afficionados like @MutableEarth will agree 😉

I think that might be right in terms of consistency. At the same time, some of our best single moments came in the years where we weren't winning.

I still maintain that the team goal against Norwich is perhaps one of the best team goals scored in the history of the game. It is the goal the Bolshoi would score if they made a football ballet. Our man from Montpellier obviously in a key role.

I didnt score as many as I hoped, but it was nice that I always scored against Tottenham
