Watched an interview with Jay Bothroyd, talking about Arsène when he made his England debut in 2010.

A few days before the game Gary Lewin (England physio and our ex physio) said the boss wanted to talk with him, Jay thought he meant Capello who had already gone home but Gary said it was Arsène in his office (using London Colney)

When Jay walked in to see him, Wenger got off his chair and gave him a big hug and told him how proud he was to see him make it to international level...Jay was a wonderkid in our academy that eventually fell away and was released, but he said Arsène always spoke to him as he was progressing through the youth teams and had very high hopes for him.

They then spent like an hour just talking about stories from Arsenal, and Jay said he left the room with the biggest smile on his face.

What a wonderful man Arsène is, wonderful.

Where is he catching strays now? Mostly i've just seen people bantering liverpool and it seems like most Arsenal fans are fully embracing the set piece FC/haramball meme and backing it right now.
Personally I loved winning from a corner on saturday because I knew Slot and Pool fans would cry about it 🤣
To be honest, I don't care how we win. Could be 38 1-0 with every goal from a corner for all I care.
Of course, at the end of the day watching a game of football should be entertainment in a way. But people need to accept that Wengerball was just an era and not the entire history of the club.

Wengerball delivered 3 titles, 7 FA Cups and an unbeaten season that no other team can match in the history of the Prem. It wasn't the entire history of the club but it delivered on two fronts : trophies and beautiful attacking football.

If you're happy scraping 1-0s from corners and hoping to win a trophy once in 6 years spending like City, there's no need to put down Wenger to justify it. It's a dull but consistent approach that may eventually lead to something. Just embrace it for what it is.

You know you’re getting old when you keep talking about how good things were in the old days.

How can you compare the Wenger era to now? Back then, most teams played kick-and-rush football, and Wenger was the most innovative coach of his time.

Football today is far more professional, more athletic, and much faster. I doubt Wenger would stand out in this era. Don’t get me wrong, I love Wenger. He’s still the best manager Arsenal has ever had. But let’s not overstate his achievements by winning three league titles in 22 years and a few secondary cups that most clubs used academy players for back then.

Ask yourself this: do you want to see Arsenal win, or do you want them to play attacking ping-pong football just for your entertainment? Attacking football is fun to watch, but it also means you’re more likely to lose.

It’s like some people are ashamed that we’re great at set pieces. Why? It’s part of the game! I love seeing the opposition panic every time we get a corner.

Football only feels boring if you’ve lost the passion for the club. Don’t be a miserable sod.

We’re top of the table. We’ve got the best defence in the world. We dominate our opponents. Be proud and enjoy the journey. Life as a fan will be a lot more enjoyable that way.

It's a mystery to me. If you guys are enjoying this era so much and it's so great, why the constant need to put down the Wenger era, to justify it. You saw the post I was responding to, which makes your post irrelevant and honestly, gaslighting.

I was really ticked off by your comment. You sound like one of those fans who supported Arsenal during the Wenger era, but now only show up to belittle everything positive happening at the club.

I don't show up, I've been on here posting regularly for 10 years. And if people didn't keep attacking Arsène, I wouldn't need to defend him. Simples really.

And I've been supporting Arsenal since I went to Highbury on my dads shoulders and was a silver member up until 2018. As for Arteta, he has a defensive style of playing and is in phase 6 of squad rebuilding with a massive investment. And so far he's won absolutely nothing. I don't like a style of football that is over reliant on set pieces to win games, I find the matches very dull. I hope he wins something this year for everybody's sake.

We're all different and entitled to our own views bro.

We’re not reliant on set pieces. It’s just wasted opportunities when you get 10 corners in a match and do nothing with them like Barcelona in the tiki-taka days, only playing short corners.

Just curious, do you cheer when we score from a set piece? Or are you hoping we lose every game in order to get Arteta sacked and getting Postecoglou as our next coach?

Postecoglou doesn't deserve to wipe Arteta's shoes.

I think pulling the massive investment argument against Arteta is somewhat unfair because most teams we compete with also invest equally heavily, so to be competitive without big money you would need some sort of scouting or talent ID advantage really which can't be easy to have in this day and age.
I think this year is the year where you can really say we've invested massively even compared to rivals (considering our lack of sales). Allhough I was critical after the Rice/Havertz summer because I thought Havertz was a poor use of funds.

I guess you could say Liverpool have often spent less (except this year) but they always had a much higher wage bill than us in recent year so not really.

Honestly if this year we can finally win a league title again or god forbid a CL I'd happily do it with all 1-0 corner wins. The club needs it badly.

After that I'd maybe be more critical of playstyle but right now I just want us to get over the line. And I think Arteta is showing some positive signs anyway right now regarding playstyle.
