I think Arteta doesn’t play Ceballos because he wants to work with players who will be here next season.
We looked better after Özil was subbed for Guendouzi. Özil slowed us down and Guendouzi offered more press and intensity.

I am not a fan of any club. I am just a fan of the game and EPL. I don't visit any football forums as much as I follow the ones about Arsenal. I admit it's because of Mesut Özil. I like him as a footballer and person.
I am sure he can still do well in Bundesliga, La Liga, Serie a but he is not fit for any team above mediocracy. He doesn't suit well in Arsenal either.
I wish him all the best and wherever he goes, I'll continue to follow his progress.

What do you do when you realize your investment turned out to be invidious? Do you still try to fix it after multiple attempts or keep high hope that it will be just as good as you expected of it to be when you wake up in the morning the next day? I have no doubt this is all psychological for Arsenal FC, it's an aversion to sunk cost. There is a saying "cut your losses and move on when it's not working." Look at the examples in Barcelona, Real Madrid, Manchester United. Move on as quickly as possible and save everyone from pain and agony. Barcelona paid £35M-40M for Arda Turan. It worked out for a while but didn't later and they send him away. Win some, lose some.

I posted this before the end of the season last year. I said "transfer him out of the club even if the management has to pay half of his wages." But, then again, I also said at the time that all players except Martinelli and Leno should be sold out as well, some because they would bring money in and others probably not, the club would quickly start the rebuilding process with new and young players with potential.

When the club knew the defense and midfield had issues, the manager and transfer committee spent £76M on a LW which was not the most necessary position to fill. They brought in Suarez and Ceballos on a loan, neither of them were a good fit. They brought in David Luiz at a retirement age when he had been anything but spectacular.

Again, find a team and move him out and spare us the pain! Please do it ASAP. David Beckham wants him in his Miami team. He will be the luxury player; meaning, there's no restriction to transfer him to MLS. They'll be willing to pay half of his wages, I am sure. Cut a gentleman's deal with Beckham. If they have a promising young player or any player, you get it on a discounted price.

There is no incentive for us other than financial savings to pay half of Özil's salary for him to play elsewhere. But the mistake you're making is calling all of his salary a sunk cost, whereas I'm sure that with shirts sales, and the odd good game he has, we're making some money back on brand recognition and marketing, let alone his value by being able to step out onto the pitch.

Whereas, in your scenario, the £8.75m we would have to pay for him to play elsewhere, that would literally be a sunk cost to the fullest of definitions. We're not in an American league where we need to adhere to salary caps. We're profitable enough to not go bankrupt by keeping Mesut on-board. And if he left we would have to spend more money to fill the gap.

If it is about goodwill with David Beckham's team in Miami, just make his son a season-ticket holder for free. No need to pay £9m from our own pockets for a big name-player to join them at a discount.

He doesn't play Ceballos because there's nothing he can do that Özil can't do better. Fans wanting Ceballos to play ahead of Özil is just in denial that Ceballos is an average player.

He was just nowhere to be seen in defence or when the ball went forward. It's extraordinary how he manages to avoid getting the ball in areas where he can do damage. You can't just knock it off into no mans land and expect us to retain the ball for another 25 passes so he can see the ball again and play another nothing pass before jogging off again.

Far less talented and technically gifted players make far more of an impression far more often. How?

Nobody's asking him to run 25 miles a game. Just show where it matters ffs.
Would help if he at least pretended to want to have a pop at goal.

He plays safe, he's always been the guy that will choose the right pass and that has worked for the majority of his career but right now it's killing us.

That ginger fella up north attempts some absolutely ludicrous passes into the box, he knows they're low percentage but he trusts his wand of a right foot to do stuff that other players can't. I would like Özil to do that more, he's got a wand of a left foot, why not use it to whip some dangerous balls into the box or have a pop every once in a while.

His one size fits all approach doesn’t cut it. He needs to demand more from his forwards so he can show us what he can do when he has the ball. As you say, he’s playing it too safe. I actually expect Arteta to have a word with him after the last game and I expect to see him be more proactive in the last third. I trust Arteta to get through to him and I know Özil still has the capability to show much more, even if he’s not peak Özil.

He looked like he had my levels of energy against Chelsea, he was so obviously out of pace from the start, unusually so even for him. I don't know why he started if he was playing like that in practice.

1/2 of özils salary could be used towards another player

A more even player, that contributes more to our defensive

Özil is too old school we cant afford to play him anymore

Think it would be good for morale to, you gotta earn your Keep!

That is not how finances work... Has already been explained in this very thread. Özil is a brand in himself...

By afford I mean tactically
He is not worth the salary given his contributions to the team

Best case scenario is obv he is sold for a fee AND His salary is freed up.

But is has gotten to the point imo that getting rid of him but having to chip in for His salary and buying the new guy is worth it.

Short sales be damned.

As I Said not good for the morale to have him loitering about

The clubs stance vehemently disagrees with your assessment.

You cant pay out Ozils wages then think you will have change left to pay a new player and pay for their transfer. There is a lot to lose in terms of global recognition etc.

There is only one manager who had an issue with Özil only to go back and try and save face.

There is a reason we armchair financial specialists arent working in finance.

His level of performance has gone up under Uncle Mikel but it’s time for him start posting some numbers. 0 goals and 1 assist is shocking tbh. He needs to start getting on the scoreboard and splitting more defences.

Been disappointed with Özil's production as well (who hasn't), but Lampard actually singed him out as causing Chelsea problems. He does a lot of stuff that goes unnoticed, but he needs to start putting up numbers for us again.

I'd take influence, involvement and danger above numbers. Always have done. If he has the same influence on games as he has done lately, but swings in a couple corners or passes to someone to fire home spectacularly, it wont be an improvement. He needs to be a menace and a constant pain for the opposition more than anything. The numbers will come if he is that.

About 2 and a bit weeks back some one on here actually said that that ginger (KDB) is overrated and average compared to Özil.
He went to to claim that his Stats and playing style look good only because He Spams the penalty area with crosses etc. He basically labelled KDB as just an overrated player that only spams the opposition penalty area with crosses, freekicks and corners.
People saying Musut has been better than any other attacking midfielder in the last decade or so including the likes of Iniesta etc..
I don’t know if some say things just to get a reaction or if they really do believe what they are saying. Is it just heat of the moment kind of thing.
