So naive walking into media traps like this. Needs a good PR agent to school him on how to avoid questions like this and stick to what he wants to talk about instead of the interviewer.

It reveals the ego in him more than his ability in term is PR. He is good at avoiding unnecessary questions and has done that consistently. He just could not let this one go for the sake of ego , to shade someone or prove he was right. This is not a quality we need when managing players in the top level.

If that's really the case, it's a sad indictment of his managerial skills. Neither Arsène nor Unai were into this kind of one-upmanship. Having said that, it was hard to tell what Unai was saying most of the time.

In Pep's very first stint he suffered from this too. Etoo revealed in an interview , he came in and too many big personalities sparked an inner insecurity. Within weeks he was enemies with Etoo and they could not see eye to eye nor speak. When he realised he needed Etoo after preseason form , he had to rally Xavi , Oleguer , Puyol etc to have a word with Etoo and bring him into the fold. It was an interesting insight. Lauren also privately revealed Arsène was a master at managing the big egos and personalities. He has a different approach to every player , media etc.

Apart from the last sentence, I agree. But as frustrating to witness as it may be sometimes, it can work for a manager both ways.

He isn't Arsène and we know Arsène would probably have long prepared for that question and batted it away.

You arrive at conclusions and make decisions based on lots of factors, and some of them will be simply due to who you are.

Tbf, he thought about it for a bit and then decided to say he knew without revealing names. He played ball but ultimately gave them nothing. There will be better examples to judge whether he has an ego that could be to the detriment of the club. I don't believe this was one of them.
