Can't see it. Think Simeone has peaked with Atletico anyway, can see him moving on soon, some of their transfer business lately has been bang average.

Not Emery's Old Pal
Isn't Griezmann the highest paid player in Europe after Sanchez? Could see them splashing the cash for Özil tbh.

Emery Gone, Telly Back On
Remember Diego spoke for a good two minutes about Özil pre semi final. All about his role in how the teams transitions & dictating the pace. Sounded like a fan boy despite the rep he has.

With good reason tbh, Mesut was clearly the best player on the pitch in the first game, creating an insane amount of chances and going past their players for fun.

20M euros is s**te bid Raul better ask for at least 30M

If it's true they want Özil out, the transfer fee is really rather irrelevant. They can't expect to get a huge fee and have the other club pay his wages. Getting his pay off the books would be enough in itself if he's not in Emery's plans.

Don’t think they’ve peaked at all. Comfortably second in the league and five points ahead of their biggest rivals.

Also done well in the CL this year after winning a major European trophy last year.

They were competing in the league & CL a few seasons ago. Hard to see them getting close to that again under the anti-football of Simeone.

Champions league group was easy, would've been horrendous if they didn't get through to the knockout rounds, 4-0 loss to Dortmund. Hardly winning away from home this season and players like Koke, Saul & Gimenez haven't really improved from where they were two years ago.

Oh and yeah the majority of the transfer business has been dreadful.

They’re not far off Barcelona in the league at all this year, don’t know how else you’d describe that as competing.

They were unlucky not to qualify from the group last year. Also don’t forget they’ve only been knocked out by Real in the knockout rounds of the CL in recent years.

They lost to Dortmund away yes but completely shut them out in the home game. Transfers haven’t been overly amazing but they’ve got star players to renew which is equally if not more important.

Özil could really be interesting in Atletico, if it clicks he d put them on another level, if not they can only transfer him to China, high risk- high reward type of deal. Maybe they could hide his defensive game. Bet he d unlock lots of defences there.

Barca/Real are well below par this season though, particularly Real. Was always going to happen when you sell the second best player in the world and don't actually sign someone to replace him though. Barca are probably too reliant on Messi & not sure Valverde is a brilliant coach either.

We'll have to agree to disagree, I don't think Atletico are improving as a team. Godin leaving, possibly Hernandez & Juanfran/Luis aren't what they once were will leave a massive hole.

Getting Özil wages off the books and getting in a player that actually wants to lead us to success would be huge!

Also loads of posters/stans and a mod or two would leave to join @Rex Banner over on the Atletico forums too, so we'd get both our Arsenal and Arsenal-Mania back.

Exciting times.

I’m not against Özil leaving because he seems to have become injury prone and of course his wages

He’s a fantastic player though
