League is very weak
Wenger's comments on Özil are somewhat disingenuous though - he has yet to explain the strange 'back spasm' absences under his watch, which seemed to occur every time we had an away game north of Watford
What’s there to explain? He had back issues. He missed big London games too.

Sad end to a beautiful player. Arsenal and Özil both lost here.

Regsrdless of how we, as fans, feel about him. He chose to come to Arsenal to play with a mediocre squad at a time when us signing big players was a pipe dream. Usually a club like Arsenal would send off a player like Özil with a classy thank you. Instead, the current management acted like absolute amateurs here.

You can debate whether Özil has been treated fairly or unfairly by the club over the past couple of years .

What you can't debate is that the situation Özil finds him in now in terms of not being registered is 100% of his own making. He knew he wasn't wanted this summer, he had ample opportunities to leave Arsenal to play somewhere else. He chose to see out his contract and collect the wages. He's entitled to do that. No-one should feel any pity for him whatsoever though.

Arteta doing this is a statement, beyond Özil. If you're not 100% committed and buying into the project it doesn't matter how much talent you've got, you'll be frozen out and you'll be gone. Great message to send to the crop of young lads we've got coming through.

Can't make his mind up
Its the club's right to do this, just as it was Özil's to refuse a pay cut and to not entertain moves elsewhere.
Think the message this sends far outweighs any potential contribution that Özil could have given on the pitch, because if we're being honest about it, he's been past his best for years and has no business being near the club.

Not true, his stats show he was still the top creator, until this season.
