You can debate whether Özil has been treated fairly or unfairly by the club over the past couple of years .
What you can't debate is that the situation Özil finds him in now in terms of not being registered is 100% of his own making. He knew he wasn't wanted this summer, he had ample opportunities to leave Arsenal to play somewhere else. He chose to see out his contract and collect the wages. He's entitled to do that. No-one should feel any pity for him whatsoever though.
Arteta doing this is a statement, beyond Özil. If you're not 100% committed and buying into the project it doesn't matter how much talent you've got, you'll be frozen out and you'll be gone. Great message to send to the crop of young lads we've got coming through.
