Mikel Arteta: Top Of The Klopps

Holy crap. Partey is our best player and is doing what he is supposed to do. There are 4 other attacking players.

You just answered why Bissouma in your last comment.
You're implying Bissouma to anchor the midfield while Partey "attacks" more, right?

He's not proven any use in those areas for us. Let him sit.

That's, like, your opinion, man.

At one point he has to compromise on how we play out from the back with the squad we have.

And also compromise about having a highline with Mari-Holding, and later Kolasinac.

And also compromise on having Auba marking a man inside our own box and not a bit further up being released and using his pace.

A lot of familiarities from last season seen today, here's hoping it all somehow clicks in two weeks time and beyond.

Possibly true. But I don’t see a better partner in the 4-2-3-1. Either way, another CM is a requirement.

I’m not sure it’s a good idea transitioning to a high line defense if only two defenders in your squad are suited to it. If only we kept Saliba.
Why on earth are we playing with a high line with Mari? Dude has to do a marginal cost analysis every time he get's the ball before deciding to pass.

At least this match will have shown Arteta that a line that high is **** against the better sides.

Still struggling to understand the new wage structure under Arteta.

Why is Cedric on £75K/w (back up) Runarsson on £40K/w (back up), Saka recently put on £30K/w (star player). Is it based on age rather than performance?

And why are backups sometimes on more than 1st team players? Holding on £25K/w has played a lot matches, but Mari who's played very few was given £85K/w?

Why have we given our highest contracts to our oldest 32+ players Auba £250-£350K/w, Willian £200K/w. These players will be immovable like Özil.

All very confusing. Poor players are getting large salaries, we seem to be learning nothing.
Wage’s structure largely is above the managers responsibility.

Some people just bash Arteta for everything because that is their prime MO.

Its like bashing Arsène for leaving us with overpaid Sead, Hector & not moving on Elneny & Xhaka years ago.
Short memories, we had to pay to get rid of Musti & Özil because nobody wanted £80m of our talent with bad contract choices.

We have made loads of bad choices.

This may be an unpopular opinion, but if we had Conte, this would be a top four squad even as it is now. Arteta doesn't invoke 1 touch passing around the corner.

We have a back 3 squad. We do not have the players to play a back 4. We have players who can play wing back and defenders who need to be in a 3 to be comfortable. We also have forwards who operate better in 2 rather than a 1.

3 at the back is the way to go with this team. We press in a 3-5-2 anyway. We need to play the players that suit the system.

-------------Auba---------Pepe
----------------------ESR
Saka---Lokonga---Partey---AMN

---------Tierney-Gabriel--White

Saka can easily advance in that position.

That's what happens when you argue he needs a team full of his signings to be properly judged. He correctly found a loophole and all he needs to do is to extend some of "not his players" to never be judged.

And now that he survived a season with no Europe, he also knows the project is safe as long as he ends up above 18th place.

Reeling from Laca & Kos nightmares
Didn't Kos get sent off in that game?

We might have lost, but at least your agenda won
He’d always get sent off or injured in those Bayern games I remember. He was always getting bullied in Europe tho, in big games he’s a liability.

I feel like Arteta isn’t under any type of pressure to perform, we could lose the first 5 games and he’d still keep his job.
With the fans back, he'd be under a huge amount of pressure.

The PR spins and the Athletic agenda merchant helped keep him in the job last season. But with the fans back, KSE will be forced to sack him if we go on a run a run similar to last year.
