Mikel Arteta: Aston La Vista To The Title?

Haphazard

We are not overachieving at all, in fact with the money spend and the time afforded to Arteta we should have comfortably been in a top 4 spot considering how badly the 1st half of United and Sp**s season went.

He has had the benefit of time and 250m pounds yet because of his massive ego he clashes with a different player every few months then exiles them instead of working it out like an adult , the result is sending an incredible talent like Guendouzi away while persisting with idiots like Xhaka and sending AMN away knowing we are desperately short in midfield.

The back 4 is also not solid, keeping clean sheets against Norwich is the base standard you should be expecting of Arsenal yet everytime we come up against the top teams we look terrible.

The fact that he is being offered a new contract shows how low the standards are at this club, by the end of this season it will be 6 seasons finishing below Sp**s and the top management just accepts it. First manager in over 25 years who could not get European football yet we are apparently on an upward trajectory. Arteta has literally failed in every aspect and being rewarded a new contract epitomizes the loser culture at this club.

The team plays for him because none of them have a personality, they are all mild mannered and can't step up to the big time , it's great when they are thumping mid-lower league teams but can't step up when the big teams are facing us.

Europa league football this year is probably par for the course at the start of the season.

That said having seen how bad Sp**s were under Nuno and how they are scrapping results and how bad United are we really had a good opportunity for top 4.

We are playing 1 game a week. The others had worse schedules. We have been eliminated from all cup compeitions. 1 against a team much worse than us and one against a team that we are aiming to emulate who had 2 of their best players out.

We haven't challenged the top teams in the leagues or taken points of them. Lost at United. Lost twice against City. Lost against Chelsea. Lost against Liverpool. We beat a poor Sp**s side and a decent West Ham side. But in general I don't see much of making the gap up to the big boys.

And that's with 1 game a week. We have been fortunate with injuries. We haven't had to change managers. We haven't had many covid cases it's been plan sailing apart from the poor decisions of senior players. Senior players who were trusted.

Right now a good team, playing once a week, with only the league to play for would find a way to get top 4. That means taking points of Chelsea away. That means beating Sp**s away. It means getting big results at home to United. Its beating Wolves and taking something from the Liverpool match at home.

Those are the games which make the difference between 4th and 6th. Not Norwich away or Brentford at home.

He’s currently the management equivalent of Lacazette. We had a few games with good form and then dropped.

Need to see how the seasons plays out first.

This is the perfect analogy tbh. It's also funnier that his good form always seems to coincide with the month Laca seems to score a few and perform. It was the same last season.

somewhat agree. progress isn't as fast as i would like it but it took other managers, f.e. klopp with way more funding, almost as long.
Klopp only spent 70m in his first full Season. Signed Wijnaldum for 35m and Mane for 35m to get top four.. He made the CL final in is second full season.

The Owners trusted him with the 140m Coutinho money because he demonstrated by performances that he could be trusted.

This is Mikel's second full season and we're not even sure if he'll make top four and even if he doesn't, there are lot of people here who will make excuses for him. So how's that comparable to Klopp?

Klopp's reign is definition of linear growth up until they won their CL and PL titles.

"There is no reason for this to happen..."

The main reason for Arteta to get a new contract, is to annoy 90% of AM...so I am totally on board with that reasoning from the club, fingers crossed it's a Alan Pardew-esque 10 year contract too :fcrossed:

They still had Mignolet in goal, Lovren at the back, Lallana starting regularly when they made top 4. Doing the double over us, beating City and beating the eventual champions Chelsea away from home that season. Yet Arteta has spent much more virtually replaced the entire squad in his second full season and people saying finishing ahead of West Ham is all it should take for him to keep his job and also justifying potentially a new contact?

And don't tell me the league was easier back then either, we finished on 75 points and still only finished 5th that season which demonstrates just how good Liverpool had to be to finish ahead of us, in Klopp first full season with a bit of backing but certainly nowhere near the extent that Arteta was. No one thought Mane and Wijnaldum were world beaters when initially signed either. In fact Newcastle fans weren't even that fond of the latter.

Love how comparing Arteta to the best coach in the world to show how **** arteta is passes as legit criticism.

It's like we're all living in a dream.

All the events that have happened makes me think the club would have extended him anyway. They are just waiting for an opportune time to do it.

They will try to renew him midseason because what if we finish 6th or 7th? The board will look like ****** then. They'll try to give him an extension now. So that when he finishes 6th or 7th at the end of the season, it will just be business as usual.

Arteta is their man. We best get used to it.
