If you want to blame the transfer window, blame last summer. That is where the real business is done.

January you can’t get much. I’d say missing out on someone like Asensio and possibly Rashford, both on loan, is worth getting upset about.

Frustrating result against a lucky West Ham team. We probably have lost too much momentum over the season and we pay for it with a top 4 finish.

The real judgement comes in the summer, until then let’s just close the season strong.

Muani and Morrata moved on loans mate. I believe we could have also positioned ourselves for Osimhen as well.

You can mess up one window. I think they had credit in the bank after consecutive success’. But to refuse to do anything in January was unforgivable.

You can easily blame both windows. I agree the main issue was summer, but they could and should have done some damage control now.

There were mistakes from him set up wise today.

Particularly Merino up top. I said before the game that he's not a striker. Coming on for 20 minutes with an aerial threat is totally different than starting up top and having to play as a conventional striker.

Merino doesn't have the natural inclination, movement or the off the ball abilities to play that role as a proper striker in this set up. It was clear as day after 30 minutes and it should have been changed at half time.

It's not Merino's fault either. He did his best. You can't learn CF play in a week. It's on Arteta for making the initial mistake ( which is kind of forgivable given our injury issues) and then for not realising the mistake and changing up to Trossard up top ( which isn't forgivable to me)

I get why he rotated Calafiori in in principle but in hindsight I think MLS from the start would have been far more stable defensively. Him getting sent off while we were chasing the game doesn't alter that for me.

He's pissed me off today.

Still tho injuries or not, squad building or not, we're looking like yet another trophyless season unless we do something special in Europe. A 5th successive trophyless campaign in all likelihood. Rightly or wrongly Arteta is gonna be judged for it.
Yeah if you want to you can ultimately make excuses for any manager at any team. The whole point of manager’s being paid so much and being such a big deal is that they are ultimately accountable for the team’s success or failures.

I don’t want Mikel sacked but he also has to hold five years of no trophies. It’s getting to the point where you can’t really defend it regardless of context.

Sigh, we go again next season.

That's true yeah. The main damage was already done last summer.

Btw I completely forgot about Rashford's availability. It would have been on loan as well yeah so it didn't have to be permanent. It would have been the most optimal transfer considering our circumstances.

Arteta wanted a striker and a winger and the club failed him what are you on about? If he had his way and got Nico and Sesko we probably win the league... This is what I mean by thick fans, there's no thought process here.
He prioritized calafiori and merino over any other position. Sesko and Williams had relause clauses that’s why they were interested. They spent more effort in signing a backup keeper than an attacker. And sterling was obviously artetas choice

Only our summer business will show if Mikel understands the problems we have.

The squad feels really unbalanced and we don’t have any players that can pull apart a mid/low block

The real judgement was in the summer, he failed. Winter window he failed. In the summer little will change and we will hear he has earned another season after poor summer

Think he’s shown he can’t take us another level up, he’s hit his ceiling.

I know he’ll get another season, but he’s had ample time and opportunities. Most managers would kill for the patience Arteta’s had both from the club and our fans.

It’s actually unprecedented for a manager of his standing to get this level of backing for so long. He’s a lucky guy.
