Mikel Arteta: All The President’s Men

League is very weak
💯% correct
Although I'm sure wages have increased since.

Some people still fail to get their heads round the absolutely gargantuan task Arteta took on when he came here.

Totally rebuilt the squad from a poverty position and trimmed the wage bill
(All now taken for granted by some on here)

We had not been in the ECL for years but we're still paying wages like we were.

Major Surgery was needed.

Kronkes invested very good money in the team but it had to be a balance.

We basically had to give away or pay off most of the squad and imo we are still feeling the repercussions.

When you consider the situation inherited he has done amazingly well.
Give away guys like Auba you mean? Who then went on to command a transfer fee after Barcelona sold him to Chelsea. That was bad business mate.

You obviously don't understand why some fans are having issues with Arteta. It isn't about our falling behind in the race; there is a list of things people are complaining about. Look through the thread.

I’ve acknowledged those things… some I agree with, some I don’t. look through the thread…
Having issues with Arteta is one thing. I’ve also voiced issues with Arteta, look through the thread…. I didn’t just join the conversation, bro.

I should point out that when I see a post questioning the owners… it implies to me that they are questioning the owners for selecting Arteta or not firing him by now. Perhaps it means something different. I didn’t want Arteta in the first place, but I think he’s done a fine job so far (not without flaws, which I also expected from a young manager). I said as long as he learns from his mistakes and adapts quickly, then I still support him. Thus far he has. And yes, there are new mistakes, mainly in our attack side now…. He needs to learn and improve, I agree with that.

Not ideal but he had no future here & nobody would pay for him at the time.
Barca kinda got lucky
He only went to Chelsea coz Tuchel was there & then he wasn't lol.

What a roundabout way of proving a point

If you were watching that match back then, Fulham left Highbury with a draw because of Van Der Sar's heroics, nothing to do with his back four.

He single-handedly kept us out.

The invincibles team would've left Leno in tears by halftime were it the other way round.

The Invincibles would've got 100+ points last season had they played.

No way would they have dropped 5 points at home to Fulham & Villa.

Things like that annoy me, ngl.

Firstly you are trying to throw our greatest trophy winning team ever kinda under the bus, to protect a bunch of players who ultimately have won us nothing...which is a bit of a disgrace as you should be 100% loyal to your best/successful teams, see every other fanbase do this but our weird one.

Secondly points don't matter in this context, what matters is opportunity...you can't can know how many points a team would get in a different season, too many variables to consider...you can't just say "X team got more points than Y team so they are better", style/quality of opponents/motive/playing out from the back now suiting forward and making scoring easier/etc have to all be factored in.

All I know is after drawing v City last season the club needed to win 9 games in a row to win the Championship, completely back the Invincibles to do that when needed.

Martinelli is an interesting one for me.

I agree that overall he is one of the more technically limited first 11 players. That's not overly an issue for me though. He has also struggled for form for a year or so.

I still stick by the fact we need a Martinelli or Martinelli profile player on that wing. We need the pace out there and we need a different profile to Saka, Trossard etc.

If we get the LCM role sorted out I still think Martinelli could have a lot to offer, though I wouldn't get against upgrading if an opportunity arises. Needs to be a pacey sort out there though for me.

I think he is technically limited even when you compare him to u16 players, but I do agree we should keep his profile and get someone who is much better. In a way, we are lucky as this is gonna be the easiest upgrade we could ever do

I think we’d get a half decent fee for him as well, not as much as a year ago ofc but still reasonable.

Pretty sure we get rid of Trossard and not Nelli though.

We've seen with Özil, Pepe, and Aubameyang that might not be the case and they were 20 levels above Martinelli. It's an awful contract for the club we have with him, think the only way we could get rid of it is to perma bench or remove him from the squad, and he tries to save his career elsewhere and accept a massive pay cut, which obviously isn't the case as Arteta still plays him all the time

Nah we’d get 40-50m+ eyes closed with Martinelli. He’s still young and more importantly just about everyone can see that he would do well in a team that plays quick, vertical and chaotic football. It’s just that Artetaball is the exact opposite of all those things. Unlike the guys you mentioned his work rate / attitude has never been in doubt and that goes a long way in the market.

Us being us though will just continue to ruin his value asking him to perform a role he is completely unsuited to and will then cancel his contract in a couple of years.

Arsenal Quotes

It was a unique moment, a football fairytale. Was there anyone left who still believed I could give that kind of performance? Probably only Arsène Wenger.
