The moaning about long throws is weird. t's just something that has become en vogue in football because you can generate chances from it if you have a good target and a guy who can get the ball to him. It's nothing to be upset about.
Stats might not support it (I don’t know) but they have looked consistently pretty dangerous, generally in the league I mean. For the team who scores the most corners by a mile, don’t see we why we wouldn’t try this too

Exactly. I also feel like if you're moaning about us not being more direct then it's strange to be upset at a pretty direct tactic with the potential to pay dividends in certain situations. Hell, we almost came back against PSG in the beginning of that 2nd leg via long throws. Would anyone have been upset with them if they'd helped us to a CL Final? I think not.

It's the same as set pieces. I don't understand the logic of not wanting to be good at as many facets of the game as possible.

Plus with these things you can pick up quite a lot of "cheap" goals.

It's not like we play like Stoke City or anything.

You underestimate people’s ability to moan

People were crying about it in real time, despite it being - as you mention - very effective. Feels like there are some that outright discount set piece goals in their mind (“we tied our goals scored record!” “Yeah but too many were set pieces, so it doesn’t count” etc etc)

And do you know what there were so many years where the media and opposition fans got on our backs and made fun of us for being poor at set pieces.

Now the shoe is on the other foot and we strike fear into other teams just picking up a corner because they know the damage we can do.

It feels good.

I take the point of not relying solely on set pieces - you want to be a well rounded and adaptable team.

However, as you mention, being good at set pieces is necessarily encompassed in being as well rounded and adaptable as possible.

I think people get a bit snooty about it at times. Being good at set plays doesn't mean we're a Tony Pulis side.

I get a bit excited every time we get a corner or free kick in a decent area because you feel there's about a 20% chance Gabriel or Timber or someone is putting it in the back of the net.

When you start get an extra goal for scoring a 30 yard screamer or a 40 pass goal I'll reevaluate my stance. But while a set piece goal is worth the same, I'm more than happy to take as many as possible

Is the moaning about us doing them? Or long throws in general being done?

There was a point last season where you could literally see opponents ****ting themselves every time there was a corner.

If anything, I feel we are bad at long throws despite taking many of them. We aren't really effective. Probably need to get a separate coach (like Brentford's coach whoever it is) for that and get better at it.

In AM, it's about us doing them. See it in almost every match thread especially if we haven't scored by that time.

Tbf it’s just the (same) few guys really.

I don’t have an issue with long throws. I have an issue with not scoring from open play but they can (and should) complement each other.

Said it before, throw ins and corners are the same really. If you don’t want us to take long throws then you should also want us to exclusively take short corners. Arsène Wenger did not exclusively take short corners…

There’s just a stigma attached to the throw ins because of our history with Stoke.

Both him and klopp had to start with poor squads. This is amazing since. He's among the legends with legendary squads. Just need that 1 more step.

All those above him yielded titles from those wins. Yet another pointless statistic just to try & force Tets into a conversation he has no business being involved in.

Well obviously yes and we didn't do both last season. "People" wouldn't be moaning if we were creative *and* added throw ins to our repertoire they're complaining because we looked like a mid table side going forward last season and started to focus on throw ins to fix our lack of goals.

Even this season we've been a mixed bag half the time fielding a terrorist network in midfield when the squad obviously has loads of goals in it.

Yeah but I still don’t see why we need to moan about the throw ins. They’re separate things. It’s like moaning about not finding your umbrella when it’s sunny outside…

If it’s the stoke stigma then that’s fine, but be honest and say it’s the stigma.

Arsenal Quotes

Thierry Henry was very quick at analysing everything that was going on and how he needed to react. This intelligence, this capacity to evaluate, understand and question oneself, is also the mark of great players... For everyone, for the fans and for us, he symbolised the golden age of Arsenal.
