Mikel Arteta: All The President’s Men

All teams spend money, we don't even spend the most. Try again.
It's such a weird take that Arsenal have spent money, and that any success that it yields is somehow less meaningful. What should the club do instead? Not spend (it's own) money to keep up with everyone else spending money? Produce and play exclusively academy products and uncovered gems? Are people longing for the 2010s Wenger years?
The likes of Sp**s, United, Newcastle and Villa have all spent in the realm of what we have under Arteta, what's their excuse that they aren't teams challenging for titles?

Wenger spent nothing and won, even in the 2010s; FA cups and title challenges.

Arteta spending 1 billion yet struggling with playing style and won nothing.

What title challenges were we involved in during the 2010’s? It’s not a slight on Wenger either as we spent basically nothing and had to sell players every year.

2015- 2016 was not a title challenge if that’s what you were thinking of. We fell into second place that season after a monumental collapse from Sp**s.

Also a bit disingenuous to include Fa Cups for Wenger but not the FA Cup which Arteta won in 2020.

Arteta should be expected to compete for the title and all major trophies after the spend of nearly £1 billion. But so should the other ‘top’ clubs with equal amount of spending

Wenger started winning again when we started spending again. We literally broke our trophy drought after smashing our transfer record on Özil and had our highest spending transfer windows in subsequent seasons that wasn't driven by a need to make a profit to pay for the stadium.

That victory was similar to what Ten Hag did. We won 3 FA cups when the quality of our team went down.

Winning a cup and then destroying that team to spend a billion winning nothing is hilarious no matter how you look at it. A low point in the history of the club.

The worst manager in the history in the PL is supposedly De Boer, a guy that failed to win in less than 10 or so matches. Think destroying a team capable of winning a cup and steal 5 years and a billion for an uninteresting, irrelevant project that failed so hard it hasn't even achieved the same success of what was destroyed to make it happen is quite a bit worse than that.

Looking at this squad now and I just see strength throughout. It's pretty incredible really.

Obviously Berta and maybe even Edu deserve credit here but I do think Arteta has been a pull also and the current players seem very willing to sign new contracts here, so they're obviously bought into Arteta and the project .

Short of some incredible injury situation I just don't see us not winning the PL this season. We have pretty much every base possible covered.

I'm glad to see Arteta becoming a bit more aggressive tactically and his willingness to rotate has definitely improved.

And back in the days, you can buy world class players for 10m pounds. The whole “Arteta spent X amount with no results” narrative is outdated. Times have changed people. There’s way more money in football now, and transfer fees are massively inflated. This isn’t the Premier League from 10–20 years ago.

If you still think elite Premier League clubs can just pick up some obscure French talents and give them years of Premier League game time to turn into world-class players, you’re living in a fantasy world.

Arteta had to rebuild the squad while developing young players. That kind of process doesn’t happen in one or two seasons. That said, with the squad now close to perfection, he really needs to start winning something.

Load of nonsense. Which world class players was we signing for £10M? Nothing has changed in football. Not much anyway. People are just scared and make thousands of excuses.

We bought Henry for £11m  He moved to Barca 8 years later for £16m. Football inflation since then has been ridiculous.

Arsenal Quotes

Religiously, it is said that God created man. I am only a guide. I allow others to express what they have in them. I have not created anything. I am a facilitator of what is beautiful in man.
