Mikel Arteta: All The President’s Men

That's, like, your opinion, man.

that's what i see coming, it will be very similar to vila, we will start conservatively trying to keep the ball, Everton will try to 'get at us' and the ref will allow it, the players will get caught up in the emotion of the game and we will drop points.

Everton would be naive to do that, as when teams try to front foot us we usually do well if our out of possession press game is on.

the big question is 'if', we have to see a response, it's going to be another pressure game under the floodlights, an 8pm kick off at a noisy away ground against a fairly physical team where everyone is waiting for us to slip up again, the media narrative going into the game will be interesting.

should step by step but arteta overplayed him when the fact he just coming back from injury,
We don’t have that luxury with all the injuries. Only option was MLS and he’s been dodgy almost every time he’s been called upon this season.

He was ripping into the team for conceding the goal when the bigger issue was the fact that we were only 1-0 up from a jammy goal…

His mentality is don’t lose first, that’s not good enough for where we want to be.

Get ready for a scared performance at Everton

Spot on. That quote about defensive disaster was scary IMO because it confirmed he's playing not to lose instead of playing to win.

How does it confirm that at all when he also bemoaned how little quality we showed in final actions and specifically said we should have had a bigger margin so one fluke action like that from Wolves can't ruin the game? It only "confirms" that because you were already looking for confirmation...almost like...confirmation bias...

There was nothing wrong with what he said.

He's a margin manager. Someone who takes pride in limiting defensive actions and letting his offensive prowess take their chances.

Problem is, what happens when you don't take your chances? Or, what can you do to organically create those opportunities?

Pep, Slot and Tets have all alluded to 'fine margins' before. It's the approach at the top of the PL for now.

At least it seems Arteta was furious this time with the performance & not being able to hardly get shots on target. Was also angry with just sitting back & defending after our 1st goal, should never do that after 1 goal!
