Mikel should get smarter than last season and immediately dump the Carabao cup. It was a total waste of time last year and drained the squad's energy reserves unnecessarily.

I mean you can't really do much if we keep winning the games, I'm pretty sure he heavily rotated until the final last season

Arteta bringing on Julienne, meanwhile Sp**s playing seniors only and Liverpool bring Szoboszlai, Gravenberch and Barcola on.

No more slander about his squad management imo. He's doing great.

I somewhat disagree. I do agree to prioritize the PL and CL. But if we could push on to be the first to win a quad, I’d love to see it. It really depends how the chips lay to make that decision. And if we can’t rely on backups and have to overplay players like we did last season then I agree to dump it. Need depth to challenge in all comps, can’t just rely on 11 starters to do it all.

Today I finally really really saw why Arteta has his non-negotiables and isn’t willing to compromise on them.

Total revelation tbh

I have to give him credit. Winning the league seems to have unlocked him. I've probably found more joy in watching this first 7 games this season than I did watching every game combined before we clinched the title last season.

No set piece goals at all and some spotty finishing yet we still are flying. We feel very much like the 22/23 team but more mature and with more confidence. We're not only effective but extremely entertaining so far. Other than a couple of signings in attack which are also dependent on Berta and KSE, he's really done exactly what I had hoped he would do.

The way the media and rivals fans have engineered this position where we are getting favourable calls is hilarious.

Only 2 seasons ago we saw the PGMOL basically derail our title fight. Don’t get me started on our history with referees here at Arsenal, going back to the Wenger days. It was always swept under the rug.

And just because we are a physical team who scored a lot of set pieces, that’s used as a stick to hit us, that Arteta is now crying about tightening controls about grappling in the box. It’s absolutely chef’s kiss.

Go show me a compilation of Arsenal set piece goals where we fouled the opposition team like West Ham fouled us that day.

Yes we have grappled teams defensively, but who doesn’t recently?

This all a narrative which has been created to use as a stick to beat us with, and the dangerous implications is that it’s sub consciously going to influence refereeing on our games.

It's why it's crucial Arsenal fight back against these narratives because they absolutely filter through to the referees; they are human after all and can bet that some, if not most consume Talksport, Sky, etc etc. Unconscious bias is a huge deal.

The Brookes penalty on Konsa was 100% narrative penalty, just as his treatment of Gabriel.

We still won the league and got to a CL final.

Provided you have the squad I don’t think this competition is as much of a drain as is made out.

Most other teams don’t really try so it’s not like the games are hard.

In this interview he explained why we played the last season the way we did, ugly, relying on set pieces

At the start of interview he says that the pressure to win the title was immense.
Around 17:00 he says something like "Can we score 100 goals today with the resources we have, with players who are out due to injuries? NO! How to win more than 30 games? We must use our biggest strength"
It is obvious he thought defense is our biggest strength.
Havertz has missed almost the whole last season, Saka and Ødegaard also missed large parts of last season.

Whoever thinks that Arteta deliberately wants to play so-called haramball is clueless.

Exactly.

We have a deep squad of mostly senior players. Like it or not, we need these extra games for a number of reasons. I want us to go deep into at least 1 of the domestic cups. Not "to win the quad" but to actually utilise "the strongest squad in the league". Both in terms of numbers and financially.

They need to play proper minutes to feel a part of the squad, and not just cleanup minutes in PL and CL games.

They need to play proper minutes to actually be active and sharp in case they are needed to play extended PL and CL runs due to injury.

And players like Max and Marli need full, senior, 90 minute game time against adults to learn, get on pace and actually develop.

This idea that the Carabao is a waste of time makes sense when 13 of your players are quality and the rest are youth or scrubs, but our squad is massive and most of them are adults. I can't imagine they want to spend an entire season coming on after 75 minutes.

That's not what rotation is. That's not what development is. That's not what a pathway is.

I'm fine with continuing to be in the Carabao as long as we genuinely use it for youth development + giving minutes to senior pro's who need them. We got to the SF last season vs Chelsea and we had a pretty strong team. This time around, I want kids + back ups.
