Mikel Arteta: Everybody Hurz(eler)

It’s not that the knives are out. It’s the reality that he will get questioned more than pep and slot because they won the league. So until he actually wins something big and get over the line people will naturally question him

I have 2 doubts about Arteta coming into the season. Can he use his squad and make sure his star players have something left late stage of the season and can he stop giving initiative away last 10 minutes in games to defend 1 goal leads.
Is 11 games into the season time enough to question if he can win the title this season, when we're at the top of the table presently? We were just having fun not too long ago where everyone were wishing we even conceded a goal FGS.

It's not like we lost the game. It was a rare error from the goalie which on another day doesn't happen and we win the game, while everyone could go get proper rest during the int'l break.

The players were clearly exhausted already but were holding on, he saw it and made a defensive sub in the 88' to see out the 1 goal lead. Teams win football games by 1 goal margin all around the world Rasmi.

Maybe (just) he would have brought on MLS to play in midfield and help with shielding the ball and performing some driving runs to at least push Sunderland backwards a bit. Probably wouldn't have done anything to prevent the error anyway.

But if you're complaining about the 1 goal lead (I guess you expected us to extend it 'cause you always complain about 1 goal lead), what other outlet did we have on the bench to go long in order to hit them on the break when the players we have who could accomplish that task are all injured?

I doubt Nørgaard coming in would've prevented the error. Dare I say, changing the whole backline or replacing all the wingers with defenders, still might not stop it from happening, because it was a fvcking freaking rare individual error.

Fresh legs in midfield and defence for the last 15 mins and that cross might not have gone into the box to begin with. We bought Nørgaard specifically for this type of situation surely, to close a game out…why are we making two CMs play over 100 mins?

Arteta is an experienced coach by now, over 300 games managed, he still is bad at making subs.

Football isn’t a game of two XI’s, it’s a squad game and these days matches are regularly over 100 mins, closer to 115 mins. Your starting XI is one thing, but a finishing XI can be equally useful.

Yesterday i think we dropped those points cos he neglected to improve his finishing XI and there were tools at his disposal to do so. Blame is on him.

There's no guarantee that crosses would have been blocked with more subs on. I think you're bitterness at surrendering 2 points at the death is shining through here. The biggest factor for the dropped points by far is the mix up between Gabriel and Raya.

If we had less injuries, he would have made different subs that he trusted. Nørgaard should come on for ezé for me and dowman for saka and leave two up there. The Nørgaard signing is a very poor signing if only because arteta doesn’t even trust him enough to use him in one of the few situations we could actually make use of him. Should have brought Xhaka back to the carpet.

Need this break to get a few back. Could do with our rivals picking up their fair share of injuries for once

It's unbelievable that we are missing Gyokeres, Havertz, Noni, Martinelli and Ødegaard concurrently.

I think we can even park Martinelli, Noni and Ødegaard for a minute.

We bolstered beyond belief in the ST position and still have inexplicable injuries. In that light the result yesterday is good and the lack of subs is understandable tbh.

I think if we had Havertz of Gyokeres fit then we win yesterday, given our 2nd half.

Positioning your players differently leads to different patters. Saying because the keeper made error, no matter what subs he would made that sequence would happen the same way makes subs pointless

There’s 7 Sunderland 25 yards from our goal when their CB puts the ball in. We have 5 in our box and 2 players on the edge of the penalty box. Nordgaard wouldn’t have occupied the same space as Mosquero which wouldn’t leave us light in defence

Ultimately we took the least brave choice and paid the price for it. Wouldn’t been big deal if it’s not Arteta MO to bring in extra defender late on and focus on defending the box. It will happen again this season

Injuries and subs aside the first XI we put out should still be beating Sunderland comfortably.

Having said that, you can’t win every game and let’s see how other top sides do against Sunderland. It’s too soon to point fingers but on paper we should have been winning this, injuries or not.

Man why can't our players pass the ball and move like City attackers??? Our attacks it's like pass, don't move, pass and walk without urgency.

Arteta's tactics are lethargic and boring. Without set pieces we would be in mid table position

They were the most physical side we've played this season in the duals and off the ball. We beat them on xG but not in the game.

Arteta should of replaced some tired legs and put fullbacks on for wingers.

You never cease to amaze man. My word! You really really needed this result so as to have those overgrown fangs of yours bared and sunk deep into the manager in order to relief yourself of some venom. Really weird cantankerous fellow/fan.

Don't stop being you man.

For me, the lack of subs meant that too many players were on fumes. We therefore surrendered the initiative and allowed a CB to join the attack! Just having an outlet, a ball carrier or someone with the legs to press might have pushed them back and stopped their dominance in the box. Our sub gave them a psychological and possession boost

Where would City be without Haaland's goals?

I don't blame him for yesterday's match, no complaints from me about match against Sunderland.

I blame him for match against Liverpool, he had to be braver with lineup.

What’s your ethnicity or nationality?

Also I never thought I would hear anyone calling for elneny qualities in an arsenal side the way the fans vilified the player. Strange times indeed.
I'm Black British of Ghanaian descent.

I never rated Elneny. However, it's nice to have a “stop-clock” player who can kill games for our benefit.
